Plus make sure your LI from ME1 or ME2 is also SM in ME3!

This is a must IMHO!

For instance, you had six in ME1 and you have ten(?) in ME2. I would rather like to have to actually convince five people to come with me (regardless of if they are a love interest or not) and have two new squadmates. Why I say five from the previous ME1 & ME2 roster is that I assume the shuttle holds eight people. In one scene I saw four seats so I think there are four on the opposite side.
My pick for the new squadmates would be Shiala (Asari commando) and Gianni (portable combat lawyer/business liason for acquiring new gear and such).

So if in ME3 we have to get again a bunch of new people then the whole building a army thing was a waste of time and that means ME2 is a waste of time at least as far as the story goes.
I agree completely!!!
Me too.

I really think from a narrative standpoint there should be a minimum for canon beyond just Shepard surviving. Some squad members surviving creates a better platform for the beginning of the next game.
Personally, I'd like for at least Garrus, Tali, Samara, Jack and Grunt to survive and remain as squad members. However, I think it might make story sense to keep Miranda and Jacob, even though I'm personally not that fond of them.
With the five I mentioned, plus Liara, we got all we need.

Scrap the unpopular characters and the ones who said they would already leave anyways.

One little problem, you forgot something:

ME2.B - your new squad all dies
ME3-Army fights the threat
How do you get to "the army fights the threat" now?

CASEY HUDSON: Each Mass Effect game is designed to be a stand-alone piece of fiction. So you don't need to have played ME1 to really enjoy ME2. ME2 has a self-explanatory beginning that will suck in players new to the universe, and it has deeply satisfying ending. What players of ME1 get is the advantage of setting certain things as a result of their decisions, and knowing why certain things are the way they are in the universe.
Translation. Don't get your hope ups OP. I'm willing to bet right now the majority of the crew in ME3 will be new and previous squad members will be relegated to cameos again (which in the case of most ME2 squadmates will be welcome by me).

Simple, you don't because if all new squad is dead, so is shepherd.
Congratulations on once again proving how thick you are.

You can get out with two squad mates, Tali/Garrus in my case, who I actually consider part of the old squad. So what now? Did you have a point or were you just trolling?

This. I can't wait to hear the fallout of Tali getting cameo'ed. It is gonna be nerd rage of epic proportions.

The idiots who got their squad killed, simply suffers for it, misses out on huge amount of game content.
seems VERY fair to me

Besides, Casey Hudson stated that the reason Liara, Ashley, and Kaidan weren't ME2 squad mates was in order to 'save these important characters' for ME3. If they go back on this claim and make all 10 ME2 squad mates 'important' in ME3 even though all can possibly die, I'll be fuming!

Lol. For once I actually agree with one of your posts. I was sitting here and realized that if that formula holds true, both Garrus and Tali will not be part of your ME3 squad, which would be pretty ridiculous considering they both played major roles in the 1st two games. However, most likely Liara, Ashley/Kaidan, and possibly Wrex will be recruitable along with whatever new characters BW develops.

It's not even just the people that get most of their squad killed. A fair amount of players at least get a few killed. The problem is: the combination of characters that die varies from game to game and every squad member could possibly be one of these. If you pick 10 ME2 gamers that had just one character die in the suicide mission, chances are these will be 10 different characters.
BW will have to implement 10 full squad mates that potentially aren't in everyone's game, and if we take David Gaider's recent comments about DA:A to heart, creating squad mates takes the most resources and the dev team doesn't want to put the effort into creating squad mates that may not be alive in everyone's game.

That's the point, it shouldn't be "a huge amount of content". Why spend lots of development time and resources on characters that are going to be dead in many people's games? It wouldn't make practical sense. Much more likely to see them as cameos for folks who kept them alive as a nod to that.

??? Because they could simply load up a different game and all those characters are alive?

Liara cannot die. She is an immortal from the clan T'Soni.

I'm figuring all of them will be, but just the fact that Liara can not die in either ME1 or ME2 makes her the most likely, if any, to return.
