I like Hale as much as the next guy but I was very disappointed in her in ME2. I found Meer did a better job but thats just me.

Tho I don't think anyone can disaggre. The best performance goes to Marten Sheen.

Jeniffer Hale: It wassss a fantassstic ecksssperienssse voisssing femssshep.

Of course the immature haters have to turn up sooner or later.
Sorry you're so jealous.

And pretty soon you're going to start bashing Mark Meer. We've all heard this before.

I don't bash, I make legitimate criticisms, and I'm not going to in this thread, as it's not about that.

what the hell s wrong with mark meer

I often wonder how much the voice actors are even into videogames. Do they even play? Is this just a job for them? Is it weird to play a game and hear your own voice talking as another person?

From what I've read, Jennifer Hale isn't much into video games at all.  However, Mark Meer is a bit of a gamer.  I think he said he pretty much played all the Bioware games he's had a voice role in.

Grunt hardly has no love. Every character has love even Jacob. There are just different levels of love (the Tali thread has crossed the threshold onto insanity).

Grunt was alas walking in the sizable footsteps of Wrex... never had a chance, poor lil' thing :(

Check out his fan thread. people should stop comparing him to Wrex and see him as a character in his own right instead of a replacement.

Cool. This is good to know. Hadn't read that.

I guess in my head I always hope that my favorite voice actors are as into games as me. Especially when it comes to games you really love, like Mass Effect. The VAs are a part of the experience, a part of why you love it.

Most of the time that's not true though. It is just work for them. Cool to hear Meer does play, though.

I actually really liked virtually all the voice acting. Tali, Thane, Miranda, Joker... they were all very convincing, even right down to smaller parts like the C-Sec boss, and minor characters like the Illium bartender.

I know a lot of people don't like Meer, but I think he does a good job most of the time. There are a few Paragon lines, especially in a few of the more 'tender' moments that sound a little awkward; part of that is the writing, though, and there are also a lot of gems. Plus, he delivers the Renegade stuff very well. I could never play Renegade, it makes me feel like an a-hole, but watching that "Commander Shepard is such a Jerk" video on YouTube makes me crack up every time :D

The thing with Grunt is that the character really doesn't get much love, not because of any problem with Blum's voice acting, but because the character just is really not that deep. I mean, I get the whole "born yesterday" idea -- he is child-like and is on a search for his identity, which is fine. The problem is that his identity really just turns out to be "I'm a Krogan and I like killing stuff".

i cant help but laugh at the thought of the voice actresses for tali being freaked out buy the huge
tali thread of doom
and grunt just going "awww no love for grunt"

Grunt's voiced by Steve Blum, a fairly prolific voice actor (he did Spike in the dub of Cowboy Bebop), so I think he won't mind having a role that fell flat once in a while.

As for the rest, I dunno.  But if Jennifer Hale is reading, I'm a HUGE fan!

Spike, the Laughing Man, Orochimaru, Todoh, Wolverine plus a bucket load of others!!! and last but not least the best FFVIII character ever! Vincent Valentine!

Jennifer Hale did Naomi Hunters voice....^_^

Is this a bad time to tell you that i've met Steve Blum?

And he is in fact, amazing. And quite charming too Image IPB

A good actor does not a good voice actor make, don't get me wrong he's a good actor but I feel there were some other gems in this game.

Though I can't stand his character and the way he was presented, so that might be part of why I'm not a huge fan of his performance here.

I don't understand the hate for Meer. Jennifer Hale is a great voice actress, Bastila Shan being my favorite role of hers, but I myself prefered Mark Meer because I usually played male.

It's simple preference, don't rage at others for it.

About the only voice actor I've ever seen actively participate in a forum was the guy who did Lucien Lachance (and about 12 billion other voices in Oblivion and Fallout 3) over on the Bethesda forums.
Nice guy, seemed to take the mockery (and hey there always is) in his stride.

Who knows if others lurk. Maybe they do. Maybe they have better things to do.

haha "turducken" is his username.  He's the one that started the "Fawkes is a lady" rumor that just won't die.

I imagine Liz Sroka is loving the fact that so many people are clamoring for her to continue being gainfully employed.

I think the voice actors did an amazing job. Any flaws we bash around on this forum (main plot, there is one ?) are due to poor writing and 90 % of the writing is good to excellent. Especially the jokes :)

i didn't like Hale's performance in this game - she sounded flat and emotionless but then again we're talking about Mass Effect standards, which are much higher than those of any other game.

Agree 100% on your first point.  I'm a big Hale fan here, but anyone capable of forming a logical opinion without being blinded by fanboyism can see that Femshep is definitely one of her low points.

Now I enjoyed Sheen's performance, but he's hardly the best in the game.  When you have Michael Beattie (Mordin), Steve Blum (Grunt and a sh*tload of others, seriously he's everywhere in this), Liz Sroka (Tali <3), and Carolyn Seymour (Dr. Chakwas), Sheen, while still a great actor, kind of pales in comparison.  If the game was full of only celebrities, then he'd stand out.  But when among actual voice actors, a regular screen actor can rarely shine through as the best.

I've often wondered this too if maybe they come check it out themselves or if friends or family might tell them what's being said by the fans. I mean I think it would be cool cause in some cases what people offer is constructive criticism that can help them preform better, though that's not always the case as we know from some post. I think it would be cool to see some post game release interview's with the VA's and finding out what they think of people's reactions.

I know he isn't a voice actor but I wonder what Mark Vanderloo thinks about the game. He probably sees his face all over the advertisements and suddenly remembers that they scanned his face for a video game a while ago.

I like Martin Sheen, I just think he has one of those voices that you can't not see Martin Sheen when you hear him. It was kind of hard to see TIM as a different character. I really liked Yvonne Strahovski just because I like the accent.

(Self-abridged)

Well, I haven't heard much of Meer's work this game, so I couldn't evaluate it overall, but there was a post or two with MaleShep vs. FemShep in the same scene, allegedly to 'prove' how Meer was superior, and I just didn't see it.  At least, it wasn't as obvious as everyone says.  I'm not blinded by fangirlism, though, I just have a different opinion.  (Though even I will attest to the fact that FemShep was a bit flatter in tone in a lot of places.  I wonder if this could be attributed to that director everyone is crediting with Yvonne Strahovski's 'performance', which barely qualifies for the name outside of her loyalty quest....)
