Alistair could, if he started out hardened or was self hardening (snicker), be a respectable leader for the Wardens and fulfill the requirements for the Dark Ritual with Morrigan, plus if he was the only one. Perhaps Riordan wouldnt have gone all "I'm-a spidey-man!" off the tower if there were only two wardens left.
Other than that....combat and story wise its not that big a deal if he/she wasnt there.
Oh wait this was a joke thread right? Pigeon-crap.....

Duncan never recruits the PC.
Alistair is the only GW that survived Ostagar thanks to Flemeth.
Morrigan and Alistair end up killing each other on their way to Lothering.
GAME OVER
Yeah... we do need our character

That, or hatesex, if movie logic is anything to go by.
Win either way. Dog would pick up the slack. Aided by the amazing Bruma Brothers of course.

Actually I think Dog could have defeated the Blight on his own easily, if it hadn't been for those pesky humans/dwarves/elves holding him back...
And agreed on the hate sex. As long as there's a cutscene.

I think we should have a thread that justifies the justification!
Edit: There is one!

Given this new path laid clearly before him he takes action, Morrigan would hardly give him as much flak since he is calling the shots and is the only way she could fulfill her mission.
She anticipated there being more GW around once the archdemon was to be slain. So she would be her usual self.

Actually this a perfect reason why it doesn't really matter. As off as some of the other characters can seem and make you wonder why you'd recruit them, you can play a character that is really not liked by other characters, often with little penalty. When I'm playing certain characters I sometimes imagine some companions teaming up and killing me in my sleep lol, thinking that they could fight the Blight easier without me rather than with me.
I don't know . . . I've had a few of my party members try to kill my warden, and Alistair give her a very sexy hate speech. We defeated the blight anyway, so I suppose I see your point! Though Ferelden did end up a much uglier place because of her influence . . .
Sometimes city elves do end up with PTSD you see.

Dont worry, the "surprise me" option at The Pearl doesnt count. It's like Vegas.

Hoping....Anticipating....Somehow I dont see Morrigan really thinking that way, I imagine she wouldnt really consider that a possibility until they showed up. I always pegged her as the Reality-is-what-you-see type. Plus if the Orlais Wardens showed up how would she know which of them would actually make it to the archdemon. I figure Wardens are like Ninja's. A single ninja is deadly and can take out armies by himself, however ninjas in larger numbers become fodder and are easily felled as they attack 2-3 at a time, see you can learn things from movies.
