Hi there, just finishing Noveria and I hit an interesting bug? in the hot labs. (PC, 1.02):

a) If you go to the Hot Labs immediately after talking with Captain V.... and ask Mira in the HL about survivors she tells you that the only survivor on the deck is the Director of operations Yaroslav Tartakovsky (?)

B) If you however kill Benezia first (released the rachni queen) and then go to the Hot Labs if you ask Mira about survivors she would say: "Lady Benezia, an executive secretary of Binary Helix, is on the operations deck". Really got me spooked (since I've already killed her) - at first I thought she might have transferred her mind or something in Tartakovsky's body (who gets butchered shortly anyway), but then I realised I probably hit an unfinished dialog branch... I couldn't find anything on the matter to date either here or over at the Mass Effect Wiki. Cute. In general the Rift Labs feels a bit unfinished - e.g. it's really easy to go to the Hot Labs immediately which forces you to butcher everyone without even a chance to talk to them. And if you leave the HL for last you can't even go the crew quarters. Back to the topic though - it would appear there was a cut story branch which would have Benezia in the HL which was never finished. Thoughts?

Yeah, it did seem to me that the completion routes for the Rift Labs were a little... unpolished. I get the feeling that the "correct" way to do it is to meet Captain Ventralis, go around and talk to the various scientists and do any quests for them, then go to the Hot Labs and deal with the Rachni (everybody seems to be hinting that Benezia is in the Hot Labs, for instance), come back and kill the now hostile ERCS guards, and THEN go meet Benezia.

Somewhere along the lines, Bioware decided to allow the PC to jump the queue by breaking into the restricted area or using the head scientist's keycard to meet Benezia first. Fair enough decision, but it leaves a number of loose ends. Why do ALL the guards/scientists disappear mysteriously after you kill Benezia, for instance, even if you haven't gone to the Hot Labs yet?

On my playthrough I encountered a whole bunch of bugs in the hot labs. Fortunately I killed them all with my assault rifle. Gorram Rachni.

You do know you can take the Maint. area pass from the doc and not have to deal with all the guards. To get to The area with the queen. To get to the area you have to go to the barracks. Which is there you need to go anyway to do the side quest for the pass.

Actually, you CAN'T go back to the barracks/scientists once you kill Benezia - both entrances are now locked - I guess BioWare were pressed for time....

I'm speculating that there was a plot branch where one would actually meet Benezia in the HL - that explains the buggy dialog. It also explains why everyone is really pushing you to go down there even though it results in potentially skipping on quite a bit of the rift labs story.

@adam_grif, cute.
