I got the dialogue to romance Leliana after the side quest. It was actually my favorite Romance in a bioware game yet, it was just fun without any emo-drama and Leliana was just a fun woman to take with me.

My understanding of the ending text was that you traveled together for awhile and then went on to fight the darkspawn together...I did not get that we broke up or anything. Maybe this will all be concluded in the DA expansion/sequel/DLC/the Leliana Chronicles flashgame/whatever.

I fell in love with Leliana when she did her singing. Alas, I couldn't get the romance even though my approval was above 70. Course, it may have been because I was bumping Morrigan... and Zevran... or because she's a lesbian.
Yes, I'm going to with because she's a lesbian.

You say that as if it is a bad thing.

I'm shooting for the threesome next time as a dwarf :D.

I just finished her quest, didn't kill Marjolaine. Affection is maxed, gave her Andraste's grace etc.

She doesn't give the option to romance her, all I keep getting is "You were a traveling minstrel, got any tales to share..." something like that. What gives?

Was this because I did the "deed" with Zevran first? But I already dumped that fool once I got the achievement. This really blows, bad enough I gotta re-roll another female toon to sleep with Alistair because I'm in the point of the game where he's a freakin king now *sigh* HALP

It is mostly in the talk after doing Marjolaine's quest I think. It doesn't matter much if you killed her or not or having another romance at the time. I was friendly towards Leliana the whole game, and made the 'mistake' to say something about Marjolaine (like 'she was special to you, wasn't she'). That triggered her to say that I'm special to her and Alistair jealous. Heh. The only point really is that you can trigger the romance after Marjolaine's quest if you didn't before (with high enough approval).

On a different note, there are several places where you can pick up the Andraste's Grace flower, not only Redcliffe. Brecilian forest too.

PS Leliana also sung for me. It was a nice surprise B)

She sung for me too, I was like (o_O) wow...

I think I know where I messed up now, I dumped Zevran after I finished Leliana's quest grrrr.

My next playthrough, I'm rolling a male toon, gotta make sure to do the "deed" with Morrigan right away, is this possible before Lothering? I wanna do this before Leliana joins my party, I figured Leliana is one jealous bish.

I had problems with Leliana on a run through. After I did her quest line, I talked to her in camp. At some point she will say something along the line of, "I need some time to think." If I didn't give her time things wouldn't proceed so I zoned out and then zoned back in and things worked out.

Hope that helps.

You can also open her romance up in the talk about your hair, for the females.

Must be a lot of ways to get there. :o

It's a lovely scene, especially with the reactions of the other party, but the obvious difference in her voice bugs me a little. Okay, a lot. It feels like I'm watching her lip-sync, and makes it unintentionally silly.

Yeah, I've seen it on youtube and that did strike me as very odd...

Yep, right off the bat, after Ostagar and Flemeth's Hut, just checked. You don't even need to bribe her, she warms up quite soon, just don't babble about love, kiss her (I didn't need to do even that), get your approval to warm and be done with it.

Next thing is how to keep 'em both? Is it possible?

I find that, as long as I say “She was special to you wasn’t she?”, the romance will begin and it then takes a bit of an effort to end.

Seriously. I can tell her that I only want the pair of us to be friends and she'll still get on my case about Morrigan later on.

from what i have seen in the million other posts on this topic there seems to be a low level conversation arc (approval of 20s or 30s) where if you choose the comment along the lines of "i think you are a good friend" you kill your relationship chances ....

as for me, i got a kiss out of her before her personal quest and slept with her shortly after, and still no song from her yet though that may be due to the fact i have slept with her and have only completed one of the main questline arcs thus far (mage's tower) also i slept with her well before i gave her any special gifts like the flowers .... all in all i would say always pick the flirtiest, cheesiest line possible to romance her, it worked for me .... oh yeah and talk about shoes >.>

The singing isn't romance related, she does that after you visit the elves.  She sang for my character and is not in love with her.

I don't know about romance with a male main character, but if you pick the "good friend" answer after she compliments your female main character's hairstyle, you get permanently friend-zoned.  If you're friend-zoned, not even chatting about shoes will rescue you.

This is just not true. If you do her personal quest later on and make the remark about 'she was special to you, wasn't she', you *will* trigger the romance, even if you didn't hint at it at all earlier (I guess provided you have enough approval with her).

First way to start the romance is to get her approval up above 50 or so - didn't even need to be that high it seems. You'll have the option in her dialogue to ask about life in the chantry. I can't remember the wording anymore, but you choose the options about being surprised that someone as lovely as her was in the chantry. She'll say there were plenty of lovely ladies in the chantry and you respond that none were as lovely as her. That gets the romance started.

If you miss it there, you have another chance after you do her personal quest if you choose the "she was special to you" option, I believe.

I don't know what I did, but I killed any kind of option other than me saying "nothing, never mind" rather quickly. I have no idea what triggers this, but both times it happened rather early in the game-- after Redcliff. I'm talking to her, asking her questions, then next time--I get NO option except "nothing, never mind." This is really annoying that skipping over a certain question can completely shut down any kind of future dialog with a character.

Yeah, what you need to do is just have every conversation with her possible, and hit on her. So don't pile gifts on her, talk to her each time her bar hits a new level just to be safe.

How are people having trouble with this? I can't get her to leave me a lone, Man or Woman, she's all about me and I have no idea why.

I even told her on my Female mage that Duty comes before emotion as a Grey Warden, and she's still 'available'. And it's all very strange, because I'm a MakerBasher and everything points to that she shouldn't like me.

Try telling her she's not a chantry sister, and stuff along that lines. She's a spy, and shouldn't hide behind a veil of innocent piety. That's the only consistent I have, and that seems to do the trick.

This doesn't work because she thinks your turning her down due to being a Gray Warder.  Leliana just falls harder for you when she thinks your being self-sacrificing.   You should have just told her you were involved with someone else instead.

as for me it doesn't really hard to get her, I don't know why, maybe because my character is female and I think she prefer with female or lesbian, I never tried with male character though coz I missed recruiting her at Lothering. lol

the trick to get her is always talk to her and listen every story that she knows and you'll end up in a quest about majorlene go to that quest, I think it doesn't matter you killed her or not, but in mine I killed her. lol (to get Majorlene Bow)

try talk about shoes,....Give her a Gift that only for her like Andraste's Grace you can look for it in Brecilian forest or Elven Alienage in Denerim. and if you in Orzammar, go to Dust town there is a man who can get Nug (a pet like pig) for you give him silver after he got one for U the bigger silver you give him the better Nug U got, and U can Give that Nug to Leliana.

to make a bigger chance never get in to romance Scene or talk with others.

I think that should do the trick

for those who happened to be have a male character could also try this I hope it work well too

From what i seen is somehow she always ends in love when i dont want her i turned her down for second time already on my noble trying follow alistair romance I felt abit bad for that so i rerolled just to calm my guilt and then the romance not triggered at all I think key to this is to of course listen and understand her also avoid completly any line pick with friend in there there are others similar so after another reroll some tests it always worked even before marjolane quest beeing done This is not important later but at the begining since when i tried turn her down as delicate i can picked every possible reson and told her 2 times lets just be friends she still trying and get jelaous about others What i can remember is picking friends lines at the begining for my elf and it didnt triggered when i didnt it worked tested on 2 others character which were made for zevran and alistair and it worked Her lines also change through the game depandable how fast you get her to love you

What personal quest of Leliana are you talking about? I have the romance since ages now, relation at 100%, she sang the song at the campfire, I have no more conversation options left...
How could I trigger that quest?

you have to start over. the quest only triggers at a certain point, and sometimes, if you advance too quickly with her, it bugs out and never triggers.

Well I seem to have fubared this but good judging from the earlier comments. I have approval of 99 and am at the final battle (actually in the final battle) and we just had a nice chat before in Redcliffe castle about adventuring together after "this is all done" but no romance. I guess I chose the "too friendly" options somewhere in the past. Ah well.

Oh yes she sang at the campfire.  That was impressive.

After playing more then 4 playthroughs I know that now.
Still on my first playthrough, it was perhaps a great coincidence that she and I did the deed and we had the heart to heart talk about "us" just before she sang the song. It was at the time for me, pure magic and thought that it was Bioware's magical touch in romance writing / timing.

Still, even knowing what the trigger for that event is, it won't change that feeling of wonder for me the first time she sang it for me nor the memory of what I felt at the time.

Yes.

Did you write that bit?  I'm curious about which writers/developers were primarily responsible for Leliana.  Overall, she's one of the best-written characters in DA:O (excepting the awful scenes in the quest for the Urn of Sacred Ashes; I started a thread asking about this but didn't get much response).

I got this scene on my first play through as a human noble rogue.

It's quite awesome.

Does anybody know how to get the Nug for Leliana exactly? Because when I always go to Dust Town, the Dwarf just keeps talking about "Don't fall into the sky."
