I'm in the boat of being on my second playthrough and being the second time I can't get Leliana to initiate her conversation about minstrels and spies - even on 1.02, and being cautious with rising her interest too far. I've also cautiously done some console jiggery pokery to mess with her approval rating, but not having much luck. I've even avoided "friend-zone" responses (hey, just like real life! haha) and still no luck. Gah, her odd scripting is seriously frustrating.
I did have her sing last playthrough, and whilst the song was nice, the character animation was just creepy and it came across as more weird / amusing than deeply 'emotional' as it was trying to be. Hoenstly I think the characters need more expressive faces before that sort of scene can really be done effectively. It was a bit like watching one of those Japanese robot dolls, with odd mouth movements and strained expressions
