Looking to put some new fire into this discussion.

Think of it, Mass Effect has no real Badass troughout the three stories? (And no the Reapers are to absent, Reapers feel rather as background info then actual villains, moreover you can't actualy fight them Saren style or even Harbinger style?)

Do you feel the overall story is suffering due to that? Do you think we will get a surpirse villan in ME3?Image IPB

Saren was boring. Barely more interesting than cardboard.

You Quarians and your accents. It is pronounced "Villian" not "Vilan." They are so cute sometimes

Yeah, we have a villain. His name his Harbinger. You may have met him about a few dozen times now.

It's going to be awesome in ME3, when you have a final showdown with Harbinger (I imagine other reapers too, but him specifically). You know the game's building up to that.

Yea I think the Reapers have been a fairly relevant villian throughout the first two games.. Not to mention they are coming in all bad ass at the end of the game..

A villain can be a group, so the Collectors count.

BG2 was made amazing by Jon Irenicus

Jade Empire had Sun Li

Good villians can actually make a game(the case of Jade Empire) or elevate it to epic(As in BG2).

Saren was better then Harbinger, but he was less a villian and more a tragic hero who got a small dose of redemption at the end(unless you didn't talk him into it)

ME1

ME2

DragonAge

All lacked a solid villian.

It's a big reason BG2 is still the superior game/story imo.

The Reapers are like the Emperor from the original Star Wars trilogy. You don't really see too much of them until the final battle, but their lackeys certainly make sure you know they're after your ass.

No, I don't think the story suffers from a lack of an asthmatic cyborg. We already have the volus after all.

TIM is almost slowly taking over as the main villain. Reapers the main threat, but TIM is the villain you can put a face to. If your paragon anyway.

A real villian...

I think Sovereign was one in ME1, although you couldn't fight it directly.

But I can't say that ME is suffering from it.

In a galaxy with multiple species, a real "one-person"-villian would be irreal.

The most powerfull beings are:

1.: Undercover-Ruthless like TIM or the Shadow-Broker.

2.: Governments with Fleets

3.: Heroes/Anti-Heroes(Shepard)

I disagree. ME1 definitely had someone you were gunning for most of the game.  ME2 didn't, but then again ME2 was generally much more poorly written than ME1.

I Believe that a human sized arch-nemesis Shepard can go against one on one would be really great for the first half of ME3, ME2 is great but until you discover who Harbinger is there's no really sense of rivalry at all.
