I'm in my fiber optics class right now and listening to my professor lecture. So we're discussing "single mode transmissions" and a bunch of other crap.

The whole class is quiet, and then he started talking about how to align the laser and get into the core of the fiber, blah blah. THEN...lol. Keep in mind, this guy has a deep voice.

Everyone's quiet and he says "Next step, assume direct control of the laser beam using the adjusters."

I burst out laughing!!! OMG
Everyone looked at me, and he said "Is something funny?" He was not amused. It was just funny because Harbinger just popped into my head right away. Wow, that was amazing lmao.

My brother is a physics professor, he did note the year ME1 came out a lot of kids did their term paper on Mass Accelerators and Rail Guns. When he asked the class why so many were interested in it, they sort of gave half backed answers that most students do. One did confess that it is showing up in sci-fi a lot. That is how he connected the dots.
