I don't think that the ME2 love interests are flings, but I do believe that if you did have an ME1 LI and an ME2 LI then there is going to be some tension in the next game and you're going to have to choose who you really want.

They are how you want to play them. People change and move on, and do silly things because they're angry, especially regarding relationships. Just because I don't consider certain characters to be 'long term' potential for your particular Shepherd, doesn't mean bioware is going to force you to keep it long term or try to force someone else to drop a relationship. It is what you make it.

We'll see. The only one I think might get canned (not be in ME3) is Jacob, since as far as I can tell, his romance is the least popular, and not by a small amount. (And is definitely the most loathed.)

How much of a role they'll get... who knows. It really comes back to the "who will be a squadmate in ME3 argument) and that's something we just don't know. How much dialogue is Bioware willing to pay for for squadmates who may well be dead?

As for me, Tali and Liara are not flings, and I don't have any endgame saves with the rest of them, though I've watched them. May do Garrus/Miri/Jack at some point. Maybe Thane. Just talking to Jacob makes me ill. I wouldn't even have a fling with him, having to even be around him is nauseating.

Yeah I can totally see the romance in "Hey lets scrog in the engine room so everyone can look in on us".  Real classy.

I'm still sort of confused about that. We've both got personal beds, why are we having sex on a metal floor?

She only settles for the best, apparently. Why the engine room is the best is anyone's guess.

Maybe the vibrations? From the engine?

Or maybe that spot is the only place in the ship that's not bugged? Which is why Tali always takes you there when she wants a private talk?

I don't know. Maybe doing it in a public workplace environment is hot for her. It's not unheard of.

Sadly, Jacob had a hot body and especially great bum, but I don't even know if I'd pick him even if he was by some miracle available to male sheps. He's just really boring.

I think Liara is definitely not a fling, judging from the very ho-hum comics thus far, and Tali has such a rabid fanbase that there's no way they could leave her out.

I hope Garrus returns, he has such a great voice and is my go-to guy for everything. The others... meh. Whatev.

Who is the second one dying? Thane and ....who else? Jack? Huh?

Psst, you didn't see Tali in the background with one of the arms of her suit empty and her face mask all fogged up? Obviously an awkward moment for ME3 when Tali is again a love interest.

Well I wouldn't call any of them flings. I don't believe they were written to be such.

However, that doesn't mean that they'll actually get the closure they deserve in ME3. We just need to hope for the best.

I actually didn't have my female Shepard get involved with an ME1 character but did get involved with Thane Krios in ME2. I adore that character and it's a real bummer that he's most likely a short term LI. What really bummed me out was that the romance scenes just prior to the suicide missions were terribly pathetic after all that build up throughout the game. I sure hope ME3 brings back a bit of the spice in that area.

I think there's more substance to the ME2 relationship than any of the ME1 ones. So is it a fling? If so then Ash, Kaidan, and Liara were only a "seven minutes in heaven."

How could anyone think Jack's actual romance is a fling?  <3

I found it really odd when Ash said "we had something special."

We did, really? You recited poetry, we knocked boots. That was it.

Unless they talked about having children and settling down on a nice Mars colony in that one month post ME1 before Shepard died, then I really didn't see it.

The only "flings" in the ME series so far are the fling in the hold with Jack and commiting suicide by Ardat-Yakshi with Morinth.

I think they'll all be treated equally. Though I doubt ANY of us will be satisfied with the meager results bioware decides to put in the game.

I think there will be the opportunity for several of the romances to end up being just flings. Thane and Miranda come to mind, possibly Jack. Depending on how you treat them. Same with the ME1 romances, probably. Though, from what I've read - and hope - you'll get a 'reward' for being faithful to your ME1 romance. So, hopefully, in some sense the ME1 romances will have a little something extra. And, if you did cheat, you'll have to go through a 5-second drama scene where you deal with the fact that you cheated.

If I remember right.. Ashley was never that serious. Though I only romanced her once. Liara, on the other hand, felt very close to you. Hopefully they'll take that into account.

I would say that Ashley was serious. Doesn't she say that she loved you during the Horizon encounter?

All of the romances have that fling feel.  Given the constraints of the game all romances have small flirty comments which somehow scream "I love you" to the object of your affection and the clothes come off so to speak (or the mask if you are into that sort of thing Image IPB).  It follows an obvious but short on time path to sex and doesn't really give the impression of hope for any real long term relationship.  It mostly always feels like Shepard just wants to get in their pants to me....anyways JMO.

Hers, if any of them, is the most legitimate and feels as though you really have to work at it for her to bring down her defenses.  So I would agree but only for Jack.

None of the romances feel like flings to me. Even Miranda can mention love and be near tears at the thought of Shepard dying. At this point, I'd be happy for a small cutscene of Shepard reuniting with his/her chosen love interest at the end, perhaps a slightly longer one if your Shep only had one partner throughout the trilogy.

Also, I don't see how where or if (am still fuzzy on how far things went with Garrus) the sex takes place says much about the relationship. Not every person finds the same things erotic.

Miranda is a total fling.....

Miranda:  "Look at me all poor and sad because my father created me to be perfect.  Poor me I wish I people would see past my perfection"
Shepard:  "Can't I admire your perfect body?"
Miranda: "Hell yeah, I don't mind.....Let's get it on"

Only one for me is Tali. ;) If she doesn't carry over I'll be sooooooooooooooo upset, and angry. For me, it should have been her to begin with, in ME1. She is the only reason I play opposite gender in a video game... just because her romance is sooooooooooooooo sweet, and I adore the character utterly.
