Hi all!

I just want to share my enthusiasm with with other Bioware/Mass Effect/DragonAge fans out there.

Until learning Bioware existed a year ago, I really didn't have a fun or full experience with games. Yet, last year when I stumbled upon the first Mass Effect, everything changed practically instantly! I still look for non-Bioware games to play, mostly to keep me occupied until the next Bioware game or sequeal comes out. But, to be very honest, maybe I'm just extremely picky, but Bioware, seems to fill a void that no other game manufacture has ever come close to touching!

The closest non-Bioware game I've found that I find to be a close decent match is "The Witcher" though perhaps it's because it uses Bioware's Auroa 2007 engine (sorry for the misspelling)!

Suffice it to say, Bioware creates the most imaginative and ceative interactive movie-like experience I have ever seen! Which is why I think Bioware is hands down the best company out there!!

Bioware, I really hope you continue on your current path with these games! Because no other company (that I've seen) has truly caught on yet!

So thank you! :D

You might want to take a look at www.obsidianent.com/.  They'll be releasing their first original IP this year - Alpha Protocol.  That might hold you over until you get another DA or ME fix.

Obsidian are a very good studio, I loved their work on Neverwinter Nights 2 + Exps and I'm really excited over Fallout: New Vegas.

They're one of my top RPG studios (along with BioWare and Bethesda) and I'm not surprised. I believe they have strong ties to Interplay who are known for publishing some of the most loved RPGs in the past 20 years (Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale, Fallout, just to name a few) and as such they've got years of expertise under their belts.

I too am excited for Fallout: New Vegas, but I fear it's going to disappoint like KotOR 2 and NWN2 (not including expansions) did.  Even though many from the original Black Isle are working on this new Fallout, the game was only announced last year.

The engine and everything (i.e. the Fallout 3 one) is already in place, so they've really only got to write it, design new models/items and get it working. Don't forget they'll have been working on it before they announced it and it's not due out until "Fall 2010" so it'll still have a lot of man hours behind it.

I enjoyed the storytelling in KOTOR 2; not so much in NWN 2. But in both games, they were generally sticking to the same type of storytelling formulas BioWare uses in their games (understandably, as they were sequels to BioWare games). How successful they were is another matter, but for me, Alpha Protocol is pretty much going to be the game that determines whether Obsidian can really pull together a great game with a great story on their own.

We all know they have a lot of talent within the studio, and some of those guys have a lot of experience, but I still have a hard time judging Obsidian on its own, because so far they've kind of just been "the guys who make sequels to BioWare games that don't venture far from the source material" (and also "the guys who make games that get cancelled or delayed a lot").

Wow! Alright, MattP you were right about Alpha Protocol!

Definitely looks like it's my type of interactive movie experience game!! lol ;-)

Hmm...I wonder how many other games are out there like this, that I have yet to discover!

To comment Noilly Prat....I actually don't have any experience with Obsidianent, but if they do well with this Alpha Protocol game! I definitely say they also are on the right track!

This is why I am really pumped about
this game.  I really want to see what they can do.

I know there
are many threads about where one would like Bioware to go with their
next setting, but I also really like their DAO and ME franchises.  I
don't want them to stop on them yet while they devote focus to another
IP.  This means we need other quality developers to step up.

You're welcome.  Haha I was worried when I posted a response that it derailed this thread too much.  I was a "Chuck" high after watching the newest episode and that gets me pumped for Alpha Protocol -- CIA stuff, you know?  I do have my reservations about this game though.  Some personal (not a huge fan of stealth games -- MGS, Syphon Filter, Splinter Cell) and some because of Obsidian's track record (this being their first original IP).

Indeed. Bioware is kind of like what Squaresoft used to be.

When a Squaresoft game came out in the 90's I would ditch school just to play it. With Bioware games today I will pretend I'm sick or take vacation time just to play them.

I was a bit disappointed with Fallout 3 (Fallout 1 and 2 are still the best), so I didn't really care about those addons and pretty much skipped all the news about New Vegas.
That is, until few days ago when I found out (totally by accident, by reading Black Isle wiki page)
When I found out that New Vegas is going to be developed by Obsidian I was surprised. Now I can't wait to see how they handle it.

Though Obsidian a really unlucky. Their Planescape Torment is as good if not better than BioWare's Baldur's Gate 2. KOTOR 2 had potential to be a lot better than the first KOTOR (I personally like the sequel as much as the first one) if Lucas Arts haven't rushed it out...
I really, REALLY hope Alpha Protocol (and New Vegas) will be a success. Those guys deserves it more than anyone else.:crying:

I think the way there games work structurally have become a little too predicable in some respects, almost box ticking.

Yes, but that was forced out before it was ready and wasn't Obsidian's fault.

People have all but forgotten Nintendo....

Ah well, I guess BioWare will do.
