The reason I avoided playing the Dwarven origins in the first place (next to the fact that I'm petite in RL and thus didn't look forward to playing a short guy in a computer game) was my hate of Orzammar. I'd played the game a couple of times and simply
dreaded the notion of having to spend yet even
more time in that place (the questline 'Paragon of her kind' was just a tad too long for my tastes). What ultimately changed my mind were a few avid Dwarf posters on this forum and a beautiful fanfic a friend of mine wrote.

So, I decided to play both Origins, see where it took me. I loved both my Dwarven characters (and unlike some other people I didn't find them ugly in the least). But unfortunately I didn't make it very far with either character. Not because of the characters themselves, or because of their being short, or because of their dialogue options (which were something really new to me after having played only humans and elves)... it was the Dwarven politics that really ruined it for me. Don't take me wrong, the whole concept of Dwarven society is absolutely amazing, kudos to the writers here! But I found that I really couldn't enjoy playing someone who was actually part of that society: the omnipresence and unfairness of the caste system on the one hand and the deceit and intrigue of the noble caste on the other hand just ruined it for me, I couldn't bear the thought of my characters being subject to THAT all their life. It's different with the Dalish and City elf: here the unfairness comes more from without, in Orzammar it's Dwarven own tradition.
I had the same feeling when I tried to play a really, really evil character once: I just couldn't do it.
