I guess I've never been able to identify with dwarves, lol. I don't dislike them...actually I find them quite interesting characters...I just can't seem to muster up the desire to get in the shoes of one, so to speak.

City Elves: I didn't like Braveheart the first time I saw it.
Dalish Elves: Reminded me of the movie Mirrors, which isn't a bad thing. Dalish elf origin is my favorite elf origin, though as a whole I dislike elves they are whiny.
Cousland: It's like the start of every bad adventure story my grandpa used to tell me. .... Indeed. Furthermore the whole becoming queen/king thing is too grandiose for my tastes.
Mage: My second favorite origin story after the dwarven noble since mages are one of my favorite classes.
Dwarven Noble: Lots of money, exp, etc for the taking. If you're playing a warrior this is the single best origin to play as you get 10% Spell Resistance, Superior Dwarven Guard Armor, Ser Garlen's Sword, and a Studded Helmet for +23 physical resistance once you reach Ostagar. If Denerim is your first stop after Lothering you can also grab the Aeducan Family Shield, or for dual-wielders grab Thorn of the Dead God while in Lothering.
Just upgrade your gloves, boots, etc since Superior Dwarven Guard Armor is hard to top until after Lothering.
Dwarven Casteless: Good for high stealing early in the game, otherwise I prefer Noble birth. Seems like there is more gold, and experience available to noble rogues.

Also, a lot of the armours seem to have been designed with the human in mind and simply scale down when put on dwarves and elves, while this is fine for elves who are only slightly smaller than humans, on dwarves it ruins the look of some of the armours, Juggernaught being a prime example.
Also, in real life I am tall and can't imagine being that short : )

I do too, and I'll tell you right now the unplayability has more to do with the realistic presentation your Warden takes in comparison to a character of World of Warcraft than it is anything personally or story-wise.
Your characters are horrendously stylized in World of Warcraft regardless of what race you play. It just fits with everything in the game world.
In DA:O, there are just many parts which were obviously directed with the assumption that you were playing the other two races. Cutscenes that cut off significant portions of your characters body because it's static no matter the race (I.E., the tower of Ishal.), or places where it's just blatantly obvious how you were supposed to be a human (Honnleath dungeons and the portal). It's just clear their just wasn't enough focus on differentiating the races through how they were presented cinematically in the game. Sure, you had a different story that is in many aspects fantastic, but that doesn't nullify the overbearing feeling Bioware puts on you that you are, in fact, playing a Dwarf.

I'm going to try the dwarf commoner as a female dwarf next time around and see if that makes a difference. Tbh I had a lot of trouble making the dwarf male look like I wanted. Seemed like no matter what I did he always looked 35-40 years old. I think it's because the beards give the cheek and jaw a certain shape - a shape that I don't like. This wasn't a problem for my elf and human males, as my human just had stubble and my elf had no facial hair. But I want to play a dwarf with a beard and the cc makes that hard for me to do properly.

One thing that does annoy me in Dragon age about dwarves though: They need more helmets with horns on them. Dwarves look cooler when they have two horns sticking out of their helmet. And I like to see my beard.
This! Also, noble human females would look amazing in a horned helmet as well. I would completely not use the helmet hack if there were those types of helmets!

I played completely differently to you, and we picked the same Origin. My Brosca sees the Grey Wardens as her life now
Yeah we got the same last name but we ain't related, sistuh.
Now, while she made choices that weren't completely goody goody (I killed Isolde, for example, instead of getting the mages to help the kid)
I'm gonna have to off Isolde, because I plan to kill every single mage in that tower, including Wynne.
I did see her journey as a sort of redemption for her life a Carta thug slaughtering merchants Beraht wanted dealt with.
Actually my rogue is a good person at heart... sort of. She steals from everybody, with no sense of self-preservation (she cheated Beraht LOL... that was the most exhilarating moment of the origin for me). However, she never kills helpless people (she spared the merchant in the origin... after shaking him down for valuables, of course).
Being dirt poor in the origin just shaped my whole outlook on money for this entire playthrough.
Before you ask... the circle mages must die because they're all infected.
The Brosca origin is, frankly, horrible. You are nothing. You start with nothing. Your sister is forced to sell herself and get pregnant so you don't have to, and you have to do as you're told and kill for someone. You're offered a fresh start and a way out of it by Duncan, and my PC decided to try and make something of herself instead of being the casteless duster brained scum everyone expected her to be back home
My anarchic little Snotra decided to make as much money and garner as much influence as she possibly can for as long as she's alive, so she can provide for her family (and herself) as she has always done. Being a Duster, she has grown up being shaped by The #1 Rule: Always look out for #1. However, she is no assassin, and she is sensitive about class/oppression/freedom issues when she sees them (I intend to help the werewolves this time). Once I hit the "Alistair is a prince" and the Orzhammar plot points, I intend to play them to my advantage as much as I can.
I am a 5'11" woman and it kills me a little to have my avatar be cut out of frame, and to have to stare at navels and crotches all the time.
I found it absolutely adorable that I only see her orange mop-top and eyes during cutscenes. It's so cuuuuute... (Also this way I get to imagine her expressions...)
My character is mostly good, is a protector of the poor and doesn't just jump at the beck and call of the nobles.
LMAO @ "help the poor." 1 thing Dust Town has taught my Snotra, is that beggars are the people who will accept your coins, then if they later find you injured on the side of the road, will crush your skull with a rock just so they can take the rest of your money. She has no time to spare for beggars; they remind her of something she does not want to become. And I'm just not talking about being poor. True poverty takes away your hope, your humanity.
Snotra doesn't like nobles either. But she couldn't get herself to hate Cailan, because he didn't put on airs.
the first dwarf I made was a 2 handed warrior and her sword was always dragging on the ground.
Try a big hammer or big axe. See how much better it fits a dwarf.
Dwarves look cooler when they have two horns sticking out of their helmet. And I like to see my beard.
Oh hellz yeah.

You get one in the Chasind cache early on, but yeah, then the supply dries up. I always stick it on Alistair and am amused to see him in the Viking marauder look.ejoslin wrote...

Sigrun
There is only one way to leave the Legion of the Dead: by fulfilling a vow to die in battle against the enemies of Orzammar, a sacrifice that absolves any guilt. Sigrun craves a chance to prove she is more than a worthless gutter-rat, but it’s hard to rush headlong into a battle you won’t survive. After all, when you grow up casteless, you learn to fight for everything. You learn that you have to watch out for yourself, because no one else will, and the Stone knows no one’s going to miss you when you’re dead. Sigrun’s a survivor, and old habits die hard.
This is what I'm talking about.
Ofc, I started my Brosca before I read that. But it's what her origin taught me.

I'm playing a dwarf next time, but he or she will end up with either Leilana or Zevran. Leilana, I think.

This is a really, really old post from DG, but it's still a goodie!
Umm... no. While there's always room for individual opinion, dwarves and elves haven't historically intersected very much.
And I'm not sure why everyone is so concerned about dwarf romances. If you're playing a dwarf and you think it's weird, then my suggestion would be not to romance anyone. One day, however, we WILL do a dwarf-specific romance. I swear it.

As far as horned helmets mentioned in this thread go, I think the Thane helmet is by far the best looking helm in the game:

Someone in my party wears the helm through the whole game. If not me, then usually Leliana.

It has been said here and said elsewhere that your avatar is one of the best.
Wow, thank you for saying so. My other main hobby is drawing comics, so that may contribute to it.
It sounds like you fleshed out your character to match the look.
It's not easy; often have to pass up the "best" dialogue choice, unlike when I was a lawful good human noble. But we all know that's what RP is about, and makes multiple playthroughs worthwhile.
Someone in my party wears the helm through the whole game.
Ha, I have Sten in full Chasind from head to toe. The helmet helps him Taunt/Threaten in combat, I hope.
Now I need to hunt down the elusive Barbarian Helm... dun even know what it looks like...
