The Sky was full of fire, and it seemed to rain ash upon the
ground. From Fort Drakon the warden could see the entire city of Denerim was
ablaze. He could not believe it, the city was such a bustling center of
commerce, and now it was a giant ash pile, would it ever be rebuilt? The Warden
shook this thought out of his mind, and turned to his main objective, the Arch
Demon. The battle between them seemed to going on for hours on this fort. His
body was fatigued, he could barely stand up in the armor that Sophia Drysden
has so proudly wore. Starfang was heavy in his hands, and from the look of his
companions, they felt the same. Loghain face was even more worn then it was
before, and pale, most likely from the blood loss he was suffering from with
the leg wound. Wynne was about to fall, and Sten had a look he had never seen
the Qunari make, a look of fear. The elves he had brought with them to fight
were doing there best to distract the Arch Demon so he could rest, but there
were only 10 of them left. He gathered his companions close to lay out his plan.
"Alright, Loghain you take the ten elves and start attacking the Arch demon on the left,
and Wynne and sten will take it on the right. When it is distracted I will
attack it from the rear, and strike it down once and for all”. He could see
them stare at him, with questioning looks. Before they could speak he silenced
them with a look, “there is our best chance, I can tell there are more
darkspawn coming and we won’t be able to hold against them, this is our one
chance to finish this, so we can not be hesitant”. Loghain spoke up, “Warden,
that would mean you would have to make the finial blow, you don’t have to do
that”. “Yes I do Loghain, you can’t kill the Arch Demon with your condition.
I’m guessing the maker has a strange sense of humor about who should make the
sacrifice. Just promise me this, if Fergus lives I want you to promise me to do
whatever you can to rebuild House Cousland, do you promise this?” Loghain shook
his head yes. The Warden stood up as tall as he could, “let’s do this.
The Warden moved as stealthy as he could, he watched as the Elves and Loghian do a dance
of chance to avoid the blows of the Arch Demon. Sten was doing a hit and run
against the other flank, with Wynne using all her magic to keep him standing
up. He continued to move to the rear of the Dragon, and waited. It was almost
humorous the Warden thought, he was going to kill the arch demon by taking it
from the rear. That was something the bards were going to leave out of the
songs when they sing of this fight. He suddenly focused, and then charged the
demon. With all of his strength he jumped on the back of the dragon and ran
along its spine. He could feel the Demon aware of his presence, and he realized
he had one chance to do this, with all his strength he swung Starfang right at
the Beats neck. It was finally going to be over he thought; this blight is over
with just swing of a wrist. But suddenly, he felt a shock of pain coming from
his knee, and he feel over on the side of the dragon and hit the ground hard.
He looked at his knee and shall a large cross bow bolt in it. He turned and watched as
dark spawn swarm out of one of the towers. The Elf’s suddenly turned to try and
suppress them, and with this distraction the Arch Demon let loose a fiery
breath to incinerate them. He could hear their screams over the blaze, and see
there figures role on the ground. He suddenly noticed how many dark spawn there
were, and realized they were going to be overwhelmed. They would not win, there
were just too many to handle. With this realization he rolled on his back and
stared at the sky, and shouted with all his might “FALL BACK EVERONE! FALL
BACK!” he turned to stare at Loghain, and could see the realization on his
face. Logahin raised his hand in salute, and then turned and ran with Wynne and
Sten. The Warden prayed that they would make, it and then he felt a shadow fall
over him. It was the Arch Demon’s leg, and it was going to crush him. His last
words before it came down on him were “Maker, forgive me for my failure.”
Back the on ground, Bann Teagen and the Soldiers of Red Cliff fought against the Dark Spawn. He felt they were going to be pushed back untill suddenly the Dark Spawn retreated. The soldiers around him started to give a cheer, untill suddenly they heard something they would all remember. A roar, so loud that the very armor they wore shook. But was the most frighting about it was how human it sounded, it sounded like a roar of victory.
