On insanity I will strip an enemy of Armor/Shield/Barrier and then not worry about it. Thane takes enemies down in 1 shot typically and 2 shots max.

Extremely useful on any mission.

It's 80% weapon damage to organic health(ONLY).
Incendiary is 60% to health and armor, with the added bonus of watching a rain dance when they're hit.
Cryo freezes anyone in the red.
Disruptor does 60% bonus to shields, as well as exploding mechs, stunning synthetics and overheating weapons.
Warp does 50% to health, barriers and armor in addition to double damage to biotic affected targets...
AP ammo does 70% to health and armor...
Facts is facts... Shredder Ammo just doesn't measure up.

To be fair, everything you listed is personal ammo.
It is useless for Shepard, but it is of some marginal benefit for Thane if you don't plan on making Shepard pick up squad ammo. However, the benefits of taking squad ammo vs. having Thane use his own ammo is up for debate.

Fair enough, I was comparing apples to apples. It would be a much larger mathematical discussion to rate Thane's performance while using a squad based ammo. (at reduced capacity) but then you'd have to add the theoretical benefit of his other powers having more ranks vs. the expenditure of points on Shredder ammo. Quite frankly my point of view comes from the silly lizard overwriting my squad ammo with his lamo 1 point of shredder ammo.

Its not useless on Thane though.

He one shots stuff on insanity regularly. On Shep its a terrible idea. The game is pretty easy on Ins anyway, you could beat it w/ Jack and Tali or Jack and Jacob the whole way.

My point stands that on Thane it is not useless.Whittle down armor, Thane Warp, Thane Headshot,

Agreed. I often take squad ammo, so having Thane overwrite it with something else is annoying.

I like Thane. The idea of a Biotic Sniper is awesome. I contend that I'd be happier with almost any other loyalty power on him than Shredder Ammo. Or, even, none at all.

Not like we really have a choice anyways considering once you've done his loyalty mission hes going to have a point in it regardless.

And yes I agree, its not entirely useless, but its not all its cracked out to be either.

The evidence that we have suggests that most mobs have equal parts shields/barrier, armor and health. Given that, Thane's Shredder Ammo is more effective than any squad ammo in the game except Squad Armor Piercing Rounds. Squad AP rounds are 10% better against enemies with Armor and health like Vorcha and Krogen. Squad AP is also better against Scions and Gunships that don't have "health."

Against everything else, Thane's Shredder Ammo is more effective than any Squad Ammo Power.

2 problems with that... Critters with only health remaining, have more ways to be dealt with than protected enemies, and secondly, it only works on Organics, further limiting its usefulness.

Whatever happened to the chemical rounds from the first game? Those were awesome. They caused enemies to take more damage and disintigrate into little puddles of acid when you killed them. Good times. I wonder if they can add some new bonus ammo types/powers via DLC...

would be nice if they added the damage bonus vs. organic barriers as well, he's already a great choice to take against Collectors, that would make him a true pro.

YMIR, Fenris, Loki, all Geth, Harbinger, and Praetorians are all immune to Shredder ammo along with others you've mentioned.
Squad ammo from Shepard will also carry a +power damage bonus, and you only need +15% power damage to make squad Warp ammo be on par with Shredder ammo against armored and barriered enemies.
