How strong does a party need to be to do the optional Soldier's Peak quest? I just tried it right after completing Lothering, and I don't seem to have a chance. I completely run out of healing and there is no chance to rest between the time the Demon and Sophia fight each other. I wipe at the summoning circle since my party is close to death at the starting point. I survive the first wave, and that's it.

Will I have more luck if I wait until later? Or does combat scale up? Any advice would be welcome. I'm beginning to slide towards the faction who think combat is frustrating.  My initial reaction to the game was extremely positive, but now I find myself increasingly frustrated. I like having followers, but I have no interest in micromanaging them. Did I buy the wrong game?

It depends honestly, I personally did it when I reached level 15 and acquired a nice armor set and a wicked sword, but it also depends on what level of difficulty you play. On normal I had a bit of problem with a boss at Soldier's Peak, on easy it was a walk through the park.

My advise is to have a healer in your group (if you don't have one already) and a few healing poultries.

And yes you might have luck later on, the higher level you get the easier it will be to crush your foes (and the better armor you acquire)

Also, you don't really need to micromanage your party, just give predefine some tactics and let them do their magic, they can handle themselves quite well. (but you might have to do a bit of micromanaging at some bosses)

I did this mission on normal at level 9 last night. I killed Sofia right away, so didn't get to the part where they beat each other. I have two mages that can cast heal and have a dozen or so healing potions. I don't need to manage the rouge and warrior, but the mage you do since there are more spells than what's aviailable in the tactics slots. What really helped also was one of the two spells I got from DLC, regen mana one toally refilled all my mana since I've run out of blue potions.

My party average, I believe, was level 6. I did it after doing most (if not all of) Lohgrin (sp).

During the last battle, my party died at the very end stage due to poor tactics on my part, My party for the battle was made up of two warriors, a mage and a rogue. My second attempt at the last battle went smoother, as I knew what to expect and made a different approach.

There is a demon called Rage Demon, surrounded by 4 portals (and a mirror) with some respawning mobs in them, in that room there is a locked door (up some stairs) that I am guessing is supposed to unlock when I kill him or something, but I kill him and the door is still locked and I can't open it no matter what I do. What am I missing?

I think I need a mage to cast heals, which I don't have right now. I'm also going to try to kill Sophia first next time I try it. I've also majorly stocked up on healing now. I'll post here if that helps.

I did it around lvl 9 on hard. Killed sophia at the start. Did not had any problems with it, it was kind of "easy" tbh. My setup is, warrior, rogue, mage, healer.

Could not wear the armor though at that time :)

Killing Sophia early on helped significantly.

I did it around level 6/7. Hadn't done any of the main quest except Lothering. Nobody could wear the armor quite yet, but it was an great early set for the tank by level 9. Sadly...it will be obsolete early too, and it's great looking armor. I wish I could get it "refreshed" for a fee at a local smith. Upgraded.

I killed Sophea before i realized I had another option. Oops. Next time. Those guys who keep respawning in the circle feed mana to the main beast. The faster you can kill them, the faster you can get to him.

DId it at level 7, but had been through the door first so this was the finishing battle for me. PLacement is key here. If you stay in the midle you get nuked! So run to the top of the staircase and that gives you time to see them all come from same direction. Then you freeze them as they come around the corner ... Took me a couple of tries but once you've got the timing right, it's not so difficult

I would recommend sometime between the time you leave Lothering..and the time you fight the Archdemon...sometime in between those two events would probobly be your best bet.

If you're really sneaky, you can go to Soldier's Peak first, then turn around and leave again. Then come back in 5 levels - because all your opponents will have setup at the earlier level and will be ridiculously easy to fight.

...not that I did that, I just played on easy my first time through. I went later and ended up getting a fantastic sword, but there's no reason you can't do it early. The loot scales, but IIRC you can get good loot from vendors and other areas. It's really just up to you. :) I didn't feel any area in particular was too hard or too easy for my level, with the exception of trying to defend Redcliffe without a healer. (That was dumb. Do not do that.)

I went from Lothering to Bercilian Forest. From Bercilian Forest I went to Redcliffe.
Once I completed Redcliffe, I took all the notice board quests, which create a nice line up toward Soldier's Peak. I did all those quests on the way to Soldier's Peak. At least level 9 or level 10 at the time I got there.
Cone of Cold is very useful in the larger scale battles inside. Freeze your enemy, follow that up with a Lightning spread and some might EXPLODE. Also, casting Flame/Frost weapon is great for extra added damage. If you have Dog in your party, use the HOWL to STUN enemies.

Personally I recommend doing this ASAP.

Warden's Commander armor is a good Mid-Tier set that you can wear pretty much as soon as you get it (even if you go there fresh out of Lothering). It is quickly replaced by sets like Blood Dragon and Juggernaut though so if you go later in the game you will probably be wearing better.

I did both DLC's right after lothering. Had no issues. It was useful to knock that stuff out and have Shale and the armor for the main quest.

I did it straight out of Lothering, had no problems at all, I was level 7. Found it way easier than Tower of Ishal. Used a few lesser healing potions and one lyrium potion for the final big battle. Sophia was easy to kill. Playing on normal. I was actually surprised how easy WK was compared to Lothering (damn those wolves) and Tower of Ishal.

In fact I ended up playing WK three times over, to find the best combination. You can walk out with around 15 gold if you play it right, as well as the armour and mages robes.
