After reading these posts it's become clear that everyone (I think) is having this problem after having already played through ME2 at least once. I have a suggestion. After playing ME2 a few times it can become redundant to check in on your crew and have conversations with them throughout the game. Perhaps these little conversations are more important than you think? I've played through ME2 about 10 times renegade and paragon and i've never ever had this problem. I always use imported ME1 Sheps and I always do Jack's Loyalty last (out of everyone). The first time I played ME2 I did Jack's loyalty too early and ended up with this problem, but i knew it was a result of low paragon/renegade. I've since corrected this mistake and have never had a problem. I'm not sure why, but perhaps the conversations (getting to know your crew) are an important part of this, which can be easily skipped if you've played over and over. I only think this because every time I play through, I make sure to have the conversations, because I want each of my Sheps to know what's going on. You never know what's gonna be referenced in ME3 after all.

I've always had a much easier time with the Miranda vs. jack scene using renegade. it only has to be up at about 3/4. just the opposite with tali vs. legion, using paragon. as for Zaeed, retaining his loyalty seems to be purely in the conversation choices you make (if you decided to save the refinery workers). I can't always make it work, but Iv'e donea playthrough with every class at least once, and I've talked him down as a paragon 2 or 3 times.

ME2 doesn't really work on how full your bar is as far as getting the charm/intimidate options go. Here is a link to a thread that explains how the system works.

Ha, I find it funny that I came across this thread. I too struggled with this problem twice.. and it really pissed me off at the time. Any newcomer to ME2 who happens to find their way to this thread needs to know this:

1) Regaining loyalty to a pissed off Miranda or Jack is still possible without a ME1 imported save. When I was unable to regain the loyalty even with a full PARAGON bar I was eventually able to due to the fact that......

2) The PARAGON and RENEGADE bars have an X amount of points needed to reach 100%, however, a 100% FULL BAR does not mean you have 100% of the PARAGON/RENEGADE points that are available in the game. So, even though the bar is full, you are still gaining points which the game keeps track of. I know this because after doing everything in the game and having a full PARAGON bar I was still unable to fix the issues to regain loyalty until I found out that......

(((MINOR SPOILER)))

3) If you are unlucky enough to find yourself in this situation (full Paragon/Renegade bar, character talent set at 100% bonus, lost loyalty, regain loyalty dialogue box grayed out), then playing all the DLC available for the game before doing the IFF mission will continue to add the required amount/percentage of Paragon/Renegade needed to regain loyalty. When I couldn't fix this I played all content to add to my Paragon. Eventually, after completing all DLC, and after getting a huge paragon bonus after the whole IFF and Legion's loyalty mission I was FINALLY able to go back down to Jack and regain my loyalty. Make sure you talk to whoever you need to before hitting the galaxy map because that is what activates the Normandy invasion and crew kidnapping.

4) All of this can be AVOIDED if you don't miss too many of the point available to your character at the time of the cat fight. Someone above described how the game has a hidden counter for your points and basically just keeps the % of points available to points gained. Carefully choose your dialogue options to receive the most points possible and always choose one way when it comes to PARAGON and RENEGADE.

Sorry to bring such an old thread back into discussion, but I really need more help with this issue. Just like in my first playthrough I'm unable to difuse the situation between Miranda and Jack in this one even though I have 100% paragon on the meter AND I'm not able to regain Miranda's loyalty afterwards. I'm reluctantly considering a 3rd playthrough in hopes to resolve this, so I'm wondering if it would be a good idea, since the game apparently (as stated by some people here on this thread) keeps a hidden record of the percentage of missed paragon/renegade dialogue option/interrupts, to do Miranda's and Jack's loyalty missions as soon as possible?

Correct, so seeing a full paragon meter is a bit meaningless as the points you've got as a percentage of how many have been available to you is what's really important. The meter is a guideline at best but may mislead you into thinking you've got plenty of paragon and can choose some neutral or renegade conversation options. You're right that tackling these difficult paragon resolutions as early as you can is a good idea, but you can also tip things in your favour firstly by importing an ME1 character with high paragon (or renegade if that's your thing) because some of that carries over into ME2, and secondly by maxing out your class talent as soon as you can and choosing the specialisation that gives you a 100% bonus on morality scores. Beyond that the options are to game it rather than roleplay it and choose conversation options for the points rather than because that's what you want Shep to say, or to make use of one of the infinite morality points glitches (caveats apply, biggest of which is that they're a time consuming pain in the neck).
