There are a lot of bipedals in ME. It is nice, however, to see other sentient life forms such as Hanar and Elcor. Especially in the case of the Hanar, It is a completely different form than we are used to seeing.

I've often wondered, on other planets with different circumstances, how life might evolve.

Take mammals, for instance. While we look completely different from, let's say, horses, we are all made of the same parts. We have 4 limbs, we have hearts, stomachs, brains, ears, noses, mouths, etc. But we all came from the same species millions of years ago before branching out. We've also had the benefit of 5 mass extinctions (one that wiped out nearly 80% of all species on earth, including flora) which allowed us mammals to evolve to the state we're at today.

Evolution is a child of circumstance, and in our case about 3 billion years worth. So on a planet that hasn't shared our history, would it be safe to assume that intelligent life would not evolve in the form of bipedals? Or would you consider bipedals to be the epitome of evolution, and only creatures who evolve in a similar fashion to us have a chance at intelligence?

Now, I understand it's a game, and I guess this thread is more general to the universe itself, rather than ME2, but after seeing the diversity that Bioware is capable of in regards to various species, it just got me thinking.

So, are there any weird sentient aliens that your imagination has thought up?

Myself, I once imagined a sentient "gas". It would be something like Hydrogen or Helium, filled with tiny organic microbes that formed a nervous system, much like Ant colonies. The more of these microbes in a cloud, the more intelligent the whole would be, to the point where a cloud would reach sufficient mass to be considered sentient and begin developing technology, and indulging in scientific pursuits.

Please discuss.

I think it has more to do with becoming space fairing. You need things like opposable thumbs to be able to build things sufficiently. Maybe there are intelligent quadrupeds in the galaxy, and maybe they're even far more intelligent. But, they have no way of exploring space.

Who knows, there's still one more (at least) game coming.
