I loved to show off.
80% of the forum were not dissapointed with Mass Effect 2.
Now, people will complain no matter how good something is.

Most people on the boards would rather everybody shut up and praise Bioware and not voice any concerns or criticism. As consumers, they've decided that the best way to consume is to be uncritical and liberal with praise - anything else is just whining. Buy product, love it, shut up. Or don't buy it because you can't uncritically praise it at every turn. Actually wanting a product to be improved is apparently impossible - you can't love something but think it flawed and therefore needs improvement. No, you need to shut up and love it or don't buy it at all. These are the options. It's all very stupid.
Granted, there are whiners and rather anal folks ( some things listed as plot holes are rather ludicrous) but the majority of criticism of the main plot in particular have been spot on: it lacks proper pacing, does not advance the story, is too disjointed from the rest of the game, and as a result the suicide mission that is the game's purpose falls flat, worsened by the terminator as end boss. All of this could have been much better. Whatever though.

Mass Effect 2 is better than the 1st game in a lot of ways, but the 1st game was like nothing I'd ever played before it. I consider myself a pretty hardcore gamer, but when Mass Effect came along, it changed everything (game-wise). At least, for me. Although ME2 was great, I really can't say the same for it.

Yeah, and the argument that anyone who doesn't post their complaints on the boards loves the game is utter bull. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who have their beefs but don't have the time or geekyness to post anything about it. That, or they are casual gamers and don't give a **** about how freaking awesome ME 2 could have been or ME 3 will be by changing certain things.

But like with any game, the more you play it the more things you notice, and the critical eye begins to talk hold. Its just human nature.

Nah, just go back and play ME1 again, it'll make it all better. Then just hope we can import an ME1 save into ME3. Hell, if we had known that ahead of time I could have saved $60 on ME2.
That's actually a great idea.
Give us that option, and simply give the few ME2 "big" choices default answers. That way we can skip the tiresome HR Manager suicide run and concentrate on the stuff that actually matters in terms of story and the overarching plot in ME1 and ME3. Those who like running errands for the suicide squad can take the scenic route through ME2.

As people pursue more conversation options they begin to unravel more plot holes or inconsistencies.

Also, this forum moves in cycles.
On one week there will be a lot of "I HATE TALI" threads, the next, "LIARA IS A TOTAL ****", then, "FEM SHEP/MALE SHEP COMPLETEL SUCKZ", the next "Mass Effect 2 is the worst game ever!" and so on.

Unfortunately we've got years to wait for that particular void to be filled it seems.

I'm on my third, will probably play three more, and the main plot is still garbage. It is possible to like the game, nay, love it without excusing its flaws or degenerating the first because of it. many defenders of the story of ME2 simply retroactively dismiss the first game. It's ridiculous. This game improved in combat, character and side-quests but failed in its overall story arc. It makes more sense as the introduction to the universe than as a sequel. No amount of sophistry or " everything will be explained in ME3" will change this. Bioware screwed up on telling the story here.

Although I would argue due to the poor main story and storytelling, plot holes seen in story telling allows others to point out the flaws in level design as well (e.g. waking up, Jacob's loyalty mission, etc.) I would also call these plot holes, even if they're not part of the main story.
