I offed Jowan in a playthrough, and when we were discussing what to do about Connor, none of us came up with the "Let's go to the Circle Tower and get the Mages there to do magic and plop a Mage in the Fade ton confront the demon"
I had Alistair, Wynne and Zevran in the group,. Wynne piped up and said the Demon could be confronted in the fade, although she wasn't sure it would work, and she didn't know how to get there. So it looked like at that time that the only option was to take out COnnor.  And back at camp Alisatir was still pissy, even though based on decisions made, it seemed like the only option at the time (and Alistair, you were there! If you had had a better idea why didn't you say so...Mr. Passive-Aggressive). But PC was able to talk him down and took a very tiny approval hit.

I decided to go with killing Connor in one of my playthroughs, gawly that was gut wrenching. Especially when HE tells you to do it, to save father, and all of that.

Then when you get to the camp, Alistair has to give you his speech on how you suck.

"You killed a little boy, how could you do that?"

What I really hate about that speech Alistair gives is that your PC is not given an oppurtunity to really go off on him. If you're RP'ing the situation where each option is equally bad (Bioware really should have properly implemented consequences for traipsing off to the Tower) - where does he get off crticising your character for doing what she/he had to do, particularly since he refuses to take the lead?

I kind of agree, I basically wanted to say "You know, you said that we had too also, why are you yelling at me for it?"

The only way not to get him pissed off is to go all the way back to the circle, and then get the mages to do the ritual, which is the fluffy way out. That wouldnt work in a real situation. Grr, it makes me mad. But I gave him his mother amulet afterward, so he no mad at me anymore.

Okay, now that the OP has weighed in and doesn't seem to mind thread derailment, I feel like I can respond. ;)

I don't see the circle as a fluffy choice. It's as much a grey area as the other choices. In that one, you're putting your personal morals above the well being of the inhabitants of the castle. It works out, maybe because you've destroyed his army of the undead, maybe for other reasons, but you don't know that. You're leaving while knowing that you may come back to find everyone dead.

Also Alistair's reaction makes sense. His initial statement that the boy might have to die comes before he thinks of the possibility of going to the mages. After that, his morals would make that the only possibility he could accept. If you reject that, he's going to be pissed. And we already know how Alistair feels about blood magic, his reaction to that possible decision can't bea surprise.

As to whether he has a right to say anything about it, everyone has a right to speak their mind. All the characters do it frequently. There's nothing in his reaction that doesn't make sense, or is inconsistant with his character.

The issue isn't Alistair's reaction - the issue is Bioware not allowing the PC to go off on Alistair for his reaction.

It wasn't Alistair's anger that I had an issue with (that's totally understandable), it was how quickly he backs down and apologizes to you if you talk him down nicely.

Well, I guess I was saying that I didn't understand why the PC would feel the need, since Alistair's reaction was entirely logical for the charcter. Disagree with him, sure, and I think you can do that, but his reaction isn't out of left field.

Very emotional game. Ultimate Sacrifice is the most emotional moment in any game I've played, not only because of the single minded focus and selfless devotion of my Warden, but he romanced Leliana, and all I can say is it is just tragedy through and through. But I loved it, it was a satisfying and very romantic (and epic) love story. A very memorable end.

A much more epic and romantic end than the romancing Morrigan ending, which gives the Dark Ritual a terrible and bitter flavor. Way too contrived and heavy handed with no oportunity to slap her half way across the room like she deserved. No you had to stand there and take her ambiguous bulls#!+, while she kicked you square in the stones or...die! Thanks for a sh!++y ending to 60 hours of game play BW. Waiting two years to find out what's up with that and teetering on the fence of whether you get to play your Warden to search for her...no thanks. No longer interested.

Onto the derailing of the thread, being able to Shield Bash companions off their feet who really anger you would be a worthy addition to the game. Honestly, it's what my Wardens would do.
