It seems that everytime I go to a planet, I die.Image IPB
I'm trying to pick up Liara to complete my team. I just left the Citidal for the first time, I think I'm lvl 11.
When I go to pick up Liara, I'm doing okay until the boss fight with the krogan battlemaster. All I do is die.
So here I thought, maybe I should visit a few planets before I go. I heard that you don't get any lvls if you kill things on the MAKO so I'm out and about on foot if I have to fight anything. If I don't die from a grenade launch, a sniper gets meImage IPB ... and this is on easy mode.
Image IPBThis game is starting to become a chore.
What am I doing wrong?

Hey there.

I think you've misunderstood what the Mako does to your leveling. You DO get experience points while in the Mako, just not as much as you would on foot. Personally I recommend that you use the Mako instead of trying to complete the game on foot. A lot of players decide they won't use the Mako at all to maximize their experience gain or as a challenge, but that's completely individual.

You're around the right level. It's just that the krogan on Therum is a tricky fight. I made a little video of how to kill him on insanity I linked to in another thread about him on page 1 or 2. There is a bunch of advice in that thread too. Someone should really just sticky a Therum krogan thread. It's the most common question.

Thanks, I feel definitely feel better now, its always nice to have a little pep talk when things keep going wrong.

The problem I'm having with the krogan fight is that there is no defensive postion to take. The fight takes place in a circle arena with no where to hide. I'm open to all attacks and my crew ends up dead first once we clear the mooks. And his FAST! He warps/pulls me and once I'm on the floor, I get a shotgun in the face or a shot in the back. And I have to ration my medigel cause I rarely have more than 5 in this fight.

Take out the sniper/rocket Geth first. To your right there is cover. Ignore the other Geth and concentrate on him. Use throw/lift/warp if you have it. Switch to shotgun if he gets too close.

For me, the fight with stasis throwing Asari clone is the hardest.

Just to clarify on using the Mako a bit more...

Even if you use it whenever possible, if you do all of the missions and assignments in the game, your character will still be around level 49 come end-game. So if it is your first time through, use it however you want.

*spoilers?*

For the krogan, it is best to take out the Geth sniper asap, as well as the other Geth in the area. Once you have only the krogan to deal with, keep your distance by all means. Krogans are a joke at a distance, but they will continually attempt to rush you. If you have biotics, abuse them - keep him floored if you can.

You can grenade the Krogan, also use a shotgun if you can with hammerhead or explosive rounds (as you need to take good shots because he runs around. You can also run away from him letting your team hit him with tech, shotgun and biotics.

I find I try to stay away from him while taking control of the team's attacks directly. Grenading him while he is standing behind the crate also helps knock him down a peg...

He is one of the hardest fights in the game based on your level when you face him.

What class are you playing? What skills do you have developed? Which companions are you using? How are their skills developed? If you're not already playing on easy, and not trying for a difficulty achievement you can always lower the difficulty.

That said it will help a lot if you have some form of crowd control. Kaiden with lift, throw or stasis, Tali with AI hacking, target one of the geth (preferably a shock trooper) right at the start of the fight. This can result on all of the enemies turning on him and will give you more time to get the situation under better control. I would advise against hitting the krogan with sabotage however, as that tends to result in a charge.

If you are willing to use an exploit a little, you can get quite a bit better equipment than you'd normally have.  Complete the Dr Michelle is being blackmailed sidequest.  She will then pay more for items than other merchants.  Sell to her, then go to another merchant.   Buyback from them (Expat in the upper wards market is good, he's close to the rapid transport.)  Go back to the good Dr and sell again.  Back to Expat and buyback, Repeat until you have a million credits and unlock Rich and buy the spectre VII guns(there are two sets available 1 in C-Sec and another from the Normandy Quarter Master) .  The various merchants around the Citadel also have various other equipment that is better than anything else you will have at that level.

I finally did it!

It was pretty close through, I'm just a plain soldier with Kaidan and Wrex. I was able to use Kaiden's stasis at least twice before he went down and Wrex gave me the cover nad warped just in time for me to wipe the battlemaster out. It was still a close call, though.

Thanks everyone, I can finally move on.

I definitely have an easier time with Tali and Wrex in that room than with any other combination. Right when the fight starts, I have Tali hack a geth trooper and Wrex use some other power on the Krogan, like warp. I then run to the right to duck behind the column, and the party follows me over. Take out the two geth moving to flank you on the right, and the krogan starts to advance, so start backing up, continuing to use powers on the Krogan like sabotage or overload to get the shields down, since he will get close enough to rush. If any of my party is down, I use unity once the Krogan is past their bodies and they will attack him from behind before I back into the last geth soldiers.

Glad to hear you did it. I usually have Ashley and Garrus in my party for that mission, but then again, I'm a pure Level 60 Soldier. Ha!

Yeah, a level 60 soldier, with a good build and gear could probably, win that fight via melee.

Exactly. I was basically a tank, throughout my entire playthrough. Sometimes I'd get the feeling that the fights aren't even fair, since I and my team are all well geared up with such superior weaponry. We would just blow up every last enemy in our face, which is exactly how I liked it! LOL!

I really like how the game rewards you with all this good stuff, though. You start off as a vulnerable character with barely any meaningful skills, then after just a few playthrough's with that same character,  you end up being a deadly monster!

Oddly enough, I think this is one of the hardest fights int he game. Typically it is my first mission and it is always tough.

It really is easy if your level is high enough and you and your team are well-equipped.

It can be a pretty tough fight if you don't know the tricks to beat it. Crowd control biotics are your friend, ai hacking is your friend, sabotage on the krogan is not your friend.

Do not sabotage the krogan, he'll charge and on lower levels, unless you are prepared for it, he can kill you very easily.
