3.      Problem
Details

a.      When it comes to problem details, think about the
five basic questions. Who? What? When? Where?
Why? Okay, so “Who?”
doesn’t really apply here, but the others do.

b.     What? What
is the nature problem that you’re seeing? The game crashes to Windows 7 with different intervals.. from 5 to 10 minutes. Regardless of what im doing in-game.

c.      When? When does
the problem occur? Every time you engage in a particular action or only
after
so many hours of play? Regardless og what im doing but between every 5 to 10 minutes

d.     Where? Where does the problem
occur? Is the problem localized to a particular planet or does
it
occur everywhere? It happens everywhere

e.     Why? As much as possible, can you
isolate the problem to a specific set of steps? No clue! Windows just informs me that there has been an error with the game and that it will close now.

I am able to reboot the game and then play on for another 5-10 minutes...

Sometimes it even happens when I launch the launcher...

I have tried redownloading and reinstalling the game.
I have tried lowering/raising the different gfx options

Running out of ideas...

Help please.. as this seems as a really good game :-)

I'd had the same problem. My PC: intel q6600 g0, 4GB Ram ddr2, ati hd4850, sound blaster audigy SE and win 7 ultimate 64-bits. Usually the problem happens when I'm in the middle of a long battle or when I assign any power to "rapid-access" keys in the keyboard. In normal difficulty it's not a big problem, but in insane it's really annoying.

Thanks for the help

PS: Sorry if there is any mistake, i'm spanish.

I use 64bit win 7 pro and I have had the same problem. Stopped using my Audigy2 sound card and used the sound off the motherboard. I also use a niffty little program called Game Booster which will turn all background processes off that are not needed when playing games. I am now able to play for long periods of over 1 hour, I still get crashes but not as many as before and usually when launching the program.

Try playing it in compatibility mode for windows XP and see if that fixes your problem.

I'm playing on a q6600, 4gb ram, geforce 9800, creative audigy 2, and win7 64bit.

Whenever I'm in combat after a few minutes either the screen looks like a mosaic or I get a black screen that will then reload back to whatever I'm doing in ME2 (still only in combat situations). I have tried to launch the exe file from the binaries folder and also terminating processes acording to bioware advice.

Will try redbaron76's advice and see if it works.

Can you elaborate Redbaron? What do you mean by compabilitymode?

@matokmn RIght click on the launcher and click properties. Then there should be a compatibility tab.

Oh boy.....

Anyway, has the OP exhausted all standard PC options available?

1)  Updated all drivers (motherboard, processor, Windows, graphics, sound, DirectX)
2)  Shut off all other processes running in the background before starting the game
3)  Disabled anti virus software before starting the game
4)  Make sure your system isn't overheating?
5)  Tested the Power Supply to ensure you have enough juice.
6)  Ran a memory test (unlikely problem as the system isn't rebooting)
7)  If you have the latest graphics driver, have you tried reverting back to a previous version?

Can you post a DXDIAG printout here?  (Google that if you don't know what it is)

I don't know if compatability will work on your pc as windows 7 uses virtualisation which needs hardware support from the cpu and motherboard. That was the error I was getting and still do but as I said earlier I started to use the motherboard sound and ran the games boost and that sorted it to a point. It could well be another program that is running that is giving you this problem. Do not turn off your antivirus though as this game attaches to the interent and you leave your self wide open to attack. You could try running a full virus scan on your pc but update your anti virus with the latest udates first.

Please post the DXDIAG results here first...it will rule out driver and some other potential configuration issues.

I have Win7 64bit, Steam version, and the only time I had it crash was when I edited the ini file incorrectly. If you haven't already, try the varify game cache and defrag options under properties in Steam. I doubt it will help based on what you've said but it's worth a try.

I've tried to update the video card driver and compatibility mode and the itn't fix the crashes. I think it's a problem of the game. I hope that bioware fix the problem with a new patch soon. By the way, i have mass effect 2 collectors edition retail version.

Does the motherboard have graphics on it and if it does is it disabled in bios? In fact if there is anything in BIOS that is enabled and you don't use like a floppy drive for instance, disable it or even set all BIOS setting to their minimum that gives a stable running PC. Have you tried running ME2 with all the settings at their lowest setting?

Yes...it looks okay from what I saw. You may want to look to your Power Supply, though. What is the make/model?
