Patch 1.02a can't find Dragon Age:Origins

Please reinstall  the game and try again.

This is the error message I get when I try to install the 1.02 patch. I need to install this patch to get the DLC to work.

But I am scared if I do in fact re-install my Dragon Age, I will lose all the content I purchased including my Blood Dragon Armor etc.

Please advise, thank you in advance.

You can reinstall Dragon Age just fine without losing your DLC. All user data (DLC, saves, settings, etc...) is stored in the My Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age directory, and shouldn't be effected by a reinstall. (Just make sure that when going through the uninstaller you don't tell it to delete saves.)

And even if it did get somehow effect it can all be redownload again.

Well Kepha, thank you for the advice. I assume that even after an un-install, by logging into Bioware servers, I am capable of downloading all the dlc that I purchased right?

Funny thing is when I try to un-install I also get a similar message that Dragon Age: Origins was not found. (I.E Dragon Age: Origins was not found on this computer.).

This is nonsense because I can run it from the menu and it works fine. This tells me somehwere there is a path setting or some ini file that needs to be updated. What I could do is just to install another copy of DAO but somehow I think it would be better to try and remove the current installed copy. Only problem is, if the uninstall file doesn't work I might have to do a manual delete and that could obviously risk losing my saved and dlc...

Oh.. any more thoughts on this? Thank you again for the input.

Likely you are missing the registry settings that tell Windows where to find the Dragon Age installation files.  This is usually caused by moving the Dragon Age location manually after install, or by upgrading Windows versions and not reinstalling the game.

You can likely reinstall directory over your existing copy of Dragon Age, but it might be safer to manually delete it and then reinstall.  As long as you're just deleting the installation directory (Default is C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age, but its whereever your actual game binaries are) it won't effect your saves and DLC, which are stored in your My Documents directory (don't delete anything under My Documents manually, its unnecessary.)

Ok what I did as you instructed was to manually delete my DAO games directory (it didn't take long at all in Vista). I haven't touched my 'My Documents' folder where my saves are kept and after re-installing the patch worked too. Like you said a registry problem I suppose (not that I manually moved my game files/folder.. weird). Thanks for your help, I seem to have it all sorted now.
