I was planning on specializing blood mage, but now I read that the training is from the Demon of Desire in the fade. Problem, I killed the boy. Is that my only opportunity to advance as a blood mage?

I really hope not.

You can acquire the blood talents in the wardens keep if you choose to as well. As far as non-DLC i am not sure though.

There should be a "tome" that you can purchase to specialize in blood magery somewhere... find some sketchy magic item dealer, maybe.

As far as the Strategy Guide says, that desire demon was you're only shot. No Tome or anything like that.

The DLC has some blood skills, but they are not from the blood Magic line. They are separate and they are more based on you being a grey warden than a mage. So you don't actually get the blood mage class from the DLC.

Yeah, and you have to do something pretty evil to pick up that specialization in the Fade. Which I guess is appropriate, for a Blood Mage. I let it go.

So don't kill conner? and go into the fade to fight the demon in spirit form?

when i found out how to do it i scoured my saved games and had one just before the encounter where you can aquire blood magic. Load an old save if you can and get it, reload your furtherst on saved game after and it will still be unlocked for you, its what i did.

I've beaten the game and never saw such a tome.  Would have been nice if there was one.

SPOILER:

Go into Fade and make a deal with the demon, actually. It's pretty straightforward, as the demon will make this offer as soon as you talk to it.

I've seen the tome (I couldn't afford it at the time), so clearly there's more than one option.

There is no tome atleast not in the console version I have been to all merchants looking for it. The Only tomes that can be bought to open specialization is Ranger, Spirit healer, Berserker. All others can be taught via companions or are story related like Redcliffe caste when you go into the fade or the Reaver.

I've seen and used a Templar tome, so it would seem the tome contents may be random, or linked to the class of the PC. I bought that tome from the Dwarf in Camp.

Hmm, on subsequent playthroughs, can you keep an eye out where that was?

Only real suspicious magic item vendor I knew of was the jerk who stole Sten's sword, and he had nothing.

It had to have been either in Lothering or in the camp just after leaving Lothering.

Hmm, Bodahn doesn't have that tome, just Ranger and Templar.

Lothering is possible, but doubtful, will check some of my saves where I can still get to those stores and check.

Will be nice and awesome if we can find the tome :).  I rather dislike that it's one that you can't actually unlock unless you are a mage, but hey oh well.

in demerim in the elves town ,there is a quest with a blood mage doing some slavery...kill him and you will have an opportunity to spare him for blood mage training.

Not if you aren't a mage, even then I'm not sure if he does that even if you are a mage. What he does is "enhances your physical prowess." It boils down to him giving you a few stat points in str/dex/con. Not worth the sacrifice.

That's not specialization training, Caladrius does a ritual to give you a bonus to constitution.

According to Wiki, the tome is in awakening. If you are playing the original first, and move into that one just to buy the tome and unleash it, is it unleashed in all the games?

jturtle - Yeah, the tome in question is in awakening and it unlocks it for DAO also. At least in the PC version, I did that for both blood mage and reaver specs.

The Blood Mage tome is in Awakenings- one of the merchants in Amaranthine has it. A Reaver one as well. I used those two to unlock it. Alternatively, go into the Fade, make a save, and explore all the options in conversation with the Demon. Reload as necessary. Quite a good way to unlock the achievements for doing things in quests you don't want to RP.

That's not the same thing, unfortunately.
