I started this game on hard as a warrior but now I'm think normal is good enough. Hard really needs you as a mage. The other playable mages don't start with the area effect spells you need which makes battle so much easier. Besides, the game is hard enough without an increase to enemies ability to resist spells.

When simply wolfs can put a hurt on my party on hard then I know its redicious.

I play this on hard difficulty and it's really easy as a 2handed warrior. Don't find excuses or justifications for lowering your difficulty, and then post it hoping people will agree to make yourself feel better.

I play on easy... I enjoy the story and the combat is fun. Most encounters are easy but the big ones require strategy. I occasionally get beat but most ambushes and things worst case scenario is i finish with 1-2 party members. There is still plenty of save/load but I find my enjoyment goes up.

Err, I was wonder what other people play at, if you like hard so be it. I know how to play the game on hard and win battles. I'm just say I enjoy the game more on normal because my characters seem more powerful and heoric rather than each battle being a challange.

I play on hard and gotta reload for some fights if i'm caught unprepared but never twice. Think I might try nightmare next playthrough.

FYI arcane warrior is a beast

There is no shame on admitting that you play on easy ... so yes, I play on easy.

Started as easy just to get a good grip on the game, now going on normal with a rogue and then hard :) (I like taking each levels one by one)

I play on hard, but i've lowered the difficulty for two fights. One was a random darkspawn encounter that I couldn't defeat no matter how hard I tried and the other was the queen spider in the Deep Roads - I had no trouble with any of the other Deep Roads boss fights, but that spider and her babies would wipe out my party really fast on hard.

I have been playing on normal but now i have came up against my first real battle, at the bottom of that tower across the bridge, i feel i have not learned anything about playing the game.

I do not last 2 mins fighting in that room just seems to be far too many mobs

Think i will need to go into easy mode if this is the start

Either I am getting really sucky rolls all the time, or you guys are full of bs.
I had to move it to easy - and still Alistair dies in every fight - usually the first one to go down. He's not a very good tank.

I would like to know what I am doing wrong here. I have tried just about every tactic there is and my party gets mowed down even by lowly bandits. In fact - my last go around the first bandit to reach Alistair nailed him for 100 point! ON EASY! Dam near killed him in one shot. Not to mention there are 9 of them and only 4 of use. 3 jump on Alistair and he is down before I can even hit the space bar. 4 stayed back as archers, so with 3 on 1 I take control of the mage to try and deal with the archers, as soon as I take control of a different party member the computer switches her off the archers back to melee, I want her to continue casting at the archers.

I have tried setting it up in tactics but the game seems to ignore anything I do there. So I would love to know how you think hard or nightmare is too easy.

Damage is insanely low as well, I don't think anyone in the party has done much more than 30 points at a time yet the enemy hits for 50, 60 or even 90+ a pop.

I don't know what I am doing wrong but reloading is getting real frustrating.

I'm playing on normal, because I always start out on normal. I've had a few spots of trouble where I had to reload multiple times and one where I decided to talk things out instead of fighting, but that's about the difficulty level I prefer.

I don't think I've come to any extremely tough battles yet, though, so we'll see how it goes when I do.

Ok, I figured it out Image IPB

all I had to do was complain a bit on this forum Image IPB
I went back to playing and now I am doing good in combat - even at normal difficulty.

Don't know what the heck was wrong before but I hope it stays this way Image IPB
I haven't installed the patch yet either.

I have two warriors right now, one on Normal and the other on Easy. Normal has been a challenge for me in some area's. One spot I can't get by on normal is Redcliffe where you take on the living dead with the Militia down in the town. I always get overwhelmed. Some of u mentioned changing the difficulty......can I change from Normal to Easy before a fight? If so please tell me how!  (BTW I'm playing on a PC)

I started on normal and have to admit I died my first few fights, I then realized that this was a heavy tactic game like my beloved BG2 and adjusted...after that, fights became way too easy so I cranked it up to nightmare and only rarely do I have to reload.

Playing on normal. I tried out all the mods, easy was too easy, nightmare was for the nutters, and hard was good, but I didn't feel like a band of warriors, just felt like a band of redshirts.

Normal balances it right for me, and some battles (Yes, you, Redcliffe) are challenging and fun.

I went straight to hard and have yet to look back. I feel that is the appropriate difficulty because friendly fire damage isn't reduced. Maybe I'll try nightmare when this game is old hat, but for now I'm satisfied.

Nightmare. I've always played at the highest difficulty setting since Baldur's Gate.

I started on easy. It was too easy, and quickly moved to normal, then after I got the hang of the game I moved up to nightmare.

Doing the entire final battle on nightmare was incredibly difficult, but very rewarding.

There is nothing wrong with playing any difficulty level. Different people have different skill levels, or patience levels and that is why games give you the choice of difficulty level.

Playing on hard all the way. Reading some comments, maybe I should adjust my settings to nightmare :) Well going to do that on my next character :)

I started on Normal with a mage but lowered it to easy. Normal was just too much like 'work' for me and I had to reload way too many times.

Basically, I'm not much of strategist but I like to play.

I'll roll up a dual wield warrior after I finish with the mage and take on normal again. Hopefully, I'll do a bit better the second go round.
