The guy was terrible as Kal"Reegar.  Did the voice director tell Adam Baldwin that Kal"Reegar was supposed to be a US space marine?   He even says "Hoorah!" which from what I understand is US military Jargon, why would a Quarian say it?

Anyways, Adam Baldwin was the worst voice actor in Mass Effect 2 and he is a blotch on an otherwise immaculate cast of talent.

Wait...what? I hate to keep blasting Mark Meer's work, but the man has no talent for voice acting. Baldwin did a stellar job by comparison.

Meer got the 'Captain's orders' line right, but other than that...

Weird.

To me, he was the only compelling quarian among a race of born losers. Image IPB

Mark Meer's performance was pretty good, especially as a Renegade. I like it when you can tell the Council

"I've got a better idea, why don't you take that reinstatement and shove it up your ass?!"

Well I thought they were both very good in this game. My only gripe is that Kal didn't sound like Jayne, but its probably better that way.

Have you not noticed he is pretty much always a variant on the same character? He probably just got confused. Saying that though he is pretty good at playing that character.

Don't get Meer's into this. He did also an Stellar job in my opinion. Stay with Baldwin.

And, well, He did seemed the less quarian among all quarians. But his job was very good. His "Keelha Se'lai" was cool.

Meer is excellent, so is Adam.

Is all you ever do is complain? Everyday there's a new thread where you're whining about something. It's getting really old.

You do realize that Kal is wearing a knit cap under his helmet right?

I disagree with you on bad voice acting. Maybe it was bad writing or bad casting but the voice acting was not the issue. Though I really do like Kal character and wouldn't want him to be any other way. As for say Hoorah!!! I don't remember him saying that. He might have been excited or trying to get his adrenaline pumping by yelling out something.

Also in the ME universe they don't always speak English and it might have just been the translators problem (though that would be strange becuase Tali doesn use Quarian words that don't get translated.) The game does a poor job of explaining when they are speaking 'common' and when they are speaking native language.

He says "hoo-ra" the same reason the Turian councilor and Grunt use finger quotes. Because there aren't really aliens. BioWare only has a limited amount of resources to come up with alien race specific traits. It is why all the aliens have human facial expressions, or they all nod their head when they say yes. Even though facial expressions and non-verbal expressions aren't even consistent across the globe. Spending time coming up with a Quarian variant to "hoo-ra" is a waste of time. They already have Kela-selai

Plus it's a win for Meer fans, because he can dedicate his time to voicing the Biotic God!

He says "Hoorah" when he fires the missle at the Geth armature.
If Kal'Reegar actually were an alliance soldier, his voice would've been great but as a Quarian the voice just didn't fit.
The whole "translator" issue is just a plot device that doesn't always make perfect sense nor does it have to.  Still, a Quarian should not be using US military jargon.  It doesn't make any sense.

I'll admit that he didn't act like most of the other Quarians, but then again the Q's are an entire alien race. Maybe he was born on the official laid-back party ship?

You should hire yourself out to Bioware as a voice casting agent.  I like what I'm hearing.

What? A race of beings having different accents based on what ship you originally came from?

NOWAI!

Plus your thread title makes no sense. If you don't like the caasting choice, blame Bioware not Adam Baldwin.

That being said his voice did stand out to me as a little strange for a Quarian.

Different accents is not the issue, it's the fact that he acts exactly like a US space marine right down to using US military jargon.

A fair point.  I think Baldwin's talent could've been better used on another character.  He could've play the boring male human squadmate in Mass Effect 3.

Whoa, bad idea to bash Baldwin. Kal'Reegar is a forum favorite, as is Baldwin.

Hell hath no fury like a Baldwin scorned.

I liked Baldwin's accent. Different ship communities probably would sound different.
Yeah he sounds American as if he was from Earth.. but then the Admiralty sounds English... as if they were from Earth.. Tali and others sound.. generic central European... as if they were from Earth.

ALL THEIR ACCENTS ARE FROM EARTH.

Oh noez!  Marines in other cultures having a "Lets get the job done and kick some ass!" attitude!

Your only valid complaint is the "Hooah!"  and um...really?  You're gonna complain about one word?  I mean you really gonna **** over every little detail?
