On my first playthrough, I find myself somewhat annoyed with the recruitment missions on Omega and Ilium. On Omega, I recruit Zaeed, Mordin, and Garrus. I tell Zaeed to report to the Normandy so I could recruit Mordin. Once Mordin is recruited, I go back to the Normandy, and have to re-dock on Omega to recruit Garrus (because they removed the airlock for some reason). When this got really annoying, though, was on Ilium. I really wanted to do some one-stop shopping: Miranda's loyalty mission, Samara's recruitment, and Thane's recruitment. After Miranda's loyalty mission, I was back at Ilium's docking bay, no problem. But once I recruited Samara, I had to go back to the Normandy. Since she was my seventh recruit, and I had already completed 4 loyalty missions, I was immediately required to do to the Collector ship mission once I reopened the Galaxy Map.
Why couldn't they have given me the option to tell Mordin and Samara something along the lines of "meet me on the Normandy, I still got some unfinished business here," enabling me to continue doing what I wanted to do on the planet? Worked for Zaeed.
(From what I gather, after TIM tells you to help your squad find closure with personal issues, then you need to do 5 non-critical missions to unlock Collector Ship, and those can be loyalty quests or N7 assignments, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

I agree, not being able to stay at a planet was kinda annoying. Having to go to the galaxy map and re-dock with Ilium/Omega was irksome.

I had isuues as well with being suddenly drfated half way around the galaxy as well. The triggers could easily be set once a planet or location has been cleaned out of recruitables .
