A woman can achieve a high level of combat effectiveness. Yes. I doubt anybody said the opposite. What people said, and you just confirmed it, is that it's "harder" for a woman, she must work more, she has a lower limit. Hence if a man of the same average than her put the same amount of work, he will be more efficient.
Or he simply may have had to work less than his female counterpart to reach the same level.
And I can't stress this enough, they are at the SAME level. This is also assuming that FemShep had to work harder, with gene therapy this might have mitigated factors some. We don't know.
I however don't assume that one will beat the other based solely on gender.
Why would it hurt ?
Do you know these "aluminum sheets" ? These things you can pierce with a finger ? They are made of metal. They aren't very sturdy despite that. I bet that the "metal plating" on a Turian is even thinner.
Given that Turian mandibles are not routinely ripped off in combat, I doubt Turian "skin" is as brittle as you think.
