If you complete the loyalty missions for Jacob, Grunt, and Legion, you get access to 3 very good defensive talents.

My question is, are the talents restricted by the type of defense you have, say: Barrier only affects biotic defenders like Adepts or Vanguards and Geth Shield Boost only affects Soldiers or Infiltrators?

Anyone can use any one of them. It will just override whatever you have.
