I don't think Bioware tends to make games for guys so much as the games they do make tend to appeal more to guys. Shootie, blowie uppie things.

Jacob is a badly written character with rather odd physical proportions.
His race has nothing to do with it.

I will agree that Jacob is a badly written character, but the TC said she wanted a "hunky" male LI, which I'm assuming she refers only to their physical attributes.
As a male, I'd say Jacob is pretty ripped. How does he have odd physical proportions?

A lot of research has shown "woman" or "girl" gamers are far more numerous than a lot of people think. Even with games like Halo (games that many consider to be very "male" oriented) the number of women that play these games are suprisingly high. These figures are suprisingly high even in traditional competitive games, both those involving cooperative behaviours (raiding in MMOs) or outright compitition (Halo Deathmatches).
Though other research did show woman gamers tend to gravitite to certain games, the list of games they prefer is suprisingly high and diverse, and would suprise many male players (basically, no they did not all play PopCap games). Either case, a game like ME does fall on the prefered list easily.

He seems rather "top-heavy" to me. He's got a lot of upper body mass and spindly legs. Makes him look cartoonish.

Jacob's waistline is only a little higher then femShep's knee's, yet he is roughly the same height as her, it gives him a gigantic upper body with very short scrawny legs along with a really tiny waist. Its basicly putting the upper body of a pro wrestler onto the lower body of a 12 year old girl.

I have never been in a forum where so many people create threads to whine about how their own personal feelings and beliefs are not being incorporated in the creation of the game they play. There isn't enough females or males. There aren't enough Asians. Why isn't the protagonist European? Why isn't TIM black? How come my Shep can't be gay. Bioware isn't fair because they are not catering to everybody's beliefs. This game is made by guys for guys. I don't want to buy another game, I wanna buy your game and complain about it until you change it. Crazy lol

Calm Down, I'm not demanding anything like this, but when you make a game that clearly gives you a choice to play as a gender, then you should tailor to BOTH genders. If they made the game and you could only play as a male, I wouldn't be asking for an even split, but because they give you the option to play as a female, then they should fully flesh out that experience equally to playing as a male...
if you could play as a transvestite, then yes, they should make the game suitable for that player aswell...

What game forums have you been on? I seem to see a lot of "I wish posts" on every game. This game is almost all about the story and dialogue choices. You get to make a lot of decisions in the game so people want to be able to make the decisions they want.
They also create romances which opens up a whole can of worms, especially since in ME1 there was a relationship option (female/female) that the didn't have in ME2 and it does seem to be obviously absent (so much so that they explained why before the game even came out, that and why they chose to have no nudity).
Also the more people like a game the more they want to put input on it. Many people spend hours and hours talking about TV shows and why they would change and what they would change things. Since I know very few people in real life that play games let alone ME2 I have to talk about it on the forums and with my friends on Vent (which is tough to do in a game like this.)

are you suggesting that women prefer D2D and men prefer the stores or just stating a personal preference?

I am member on several forums. Though I have viewed several gaming forums, this one is the only gaming forum I am member of. Perhaps I am looking at things around here the wrong way. I am used to engaging in other types of forums not related to gaming. There is a ton of trolling and political overtones in a lot of these threads. And I know this is not my imagination.tropicalwave wrote...

What I am saying is that hanging out in gaming stores isn't my thing, and it very well may not be the preference of others as well. I don't see the point of going through the hassle of fighting the crowds in an age when everything you want can either be downloaded or shipped to your front door.
There is also a subculture of female gamers that some may not be aware exists. I have a group of 4 gaming female friends who came to visit me at my home last year from all over the country. They were part of a Neverwinter Nights 2 fan/fanfic group from Yahoo that was comprised overwhelmingly of women.

1) 40 per cent of gamers are women. That's 4 out of every 10. Do you believe that's the case? Maybe you do. I'm not asking for proof from you. Just asking whether you believe that's the case.
And if the answer is "yes", then I ask, what do you think the numbers are if we focus on shooter and shooter/rpg hybrids like Mass Effect?
Maybe their numbers include lots of Wii group/party-type gamers and I'm just woefully uninformed. I freely admit that may be the case. Heck, maybe those numbers are based on shooter/rpg numbers alone and I'm even more out of touch. I'm going to research it myself. But I'd like to know whether they sound right to you.
