I find it extremely dissapointing that a thread with the potential that this had has turned into a f-ing joke. Seriously, we haven't heard enough "assuming direct control"-jokes yet have we?

That and there really hasn't been much good speculation about theories that don't seem extremely retarded (i.e. uploading a virus to some 'mothership' makes absolutely no sense, WHY would a reaper fleet that is extremely powerful create something like that?) and if there have been good theories, they have certainly been outweighed by the massive amount of idiocy this thread withholds.

Come on, we can do better than this.

Edit: Halo Quea on page 7 said it extremely well. Read his/her post.

Here's my take on it:

There will be a plot twist at the end when facing the reaper fleet. The reapers really are trying to save the galaxy by collecting species and making sure the genetic diversity survives because the reapers found that a larger threat is out to destroy the galaxy and they need as many reapers to fight them.

This will launch the Mass Effect strategy game where your resource collection is other species to build your reapers to fight this new threat. Each species brings different traits to your ships.

As a counter to being serious, since the most serious thing I can think of is either a separate MMO or an RTS for the actual war against the Reapers, with just all the running and shooting stuff in ME3.

(Normandy pulls up to the Reaper fleet. Shepard makes a long rambling speech as the various forces size each other up)

Shepard: ... Now get the hell out of our galaxy!

(Reaper fleet leaves)

Before ME2 was launched, everybody speculated about how the collectors were connected with the reapers. Some people probably thought that they might be building a reaper, but I'm sure there was alot of second guessing about that because it was so extreme and they were thinking "naaah, that can't be true", but it was.

I think (and hope) there will be something unexpected and amazing. I've even thought about that a reaper betrays the rest and joins us, sounds crazy, but who knows....

I apologise if this has been brought up before.

What about the data pad with the Reaper specs that Joker has in the end of ME2? Maybe we (Cerberus most likely) will find a way to use their own technology against them.

To win, we build a big robot then use that robot to pilot a bigger robot then use that piloted robot to pilot yet another robot then we use a moon sized drill against the Reapers. Cue credits and ending scenes

Method 1: Shep will sneak onto the Reaper mother-ship and upload a virus into its systems that will spread to all the other reapers and bring down their shields at the same time. Then the combined galactic fleet will blow them up at their weakest, when firing their main weapons. July 4th becomes the new galactic independence day.

Method 2: In darkspace, at the Reapers hibernation facility, Shep sets a NOVA bomb in the middle of thier fleet and races the Normandy back to the relay. The Reaper fleet in the background begins to awaken as a white light envelopes them. the Blast waves shakes the hull violently, and the screen goes white just as the Normandy passes through the relay. Shep comes to a little later, floating in zero G on the Normandy. He looks out through the hole caused by the missing forward half of the ship, seeing the galaxy in the distance, along with the debris field that was one the Reapers. EDI drops a distress beacon, but says it could be years before anybody finds them. He turns back and says 'wake me when you need me' to EDI before entering cryostasis, awaiting rescue.

I think they chose Minmei to sing it.

Well, the idea I had about that final cutscene, was that it didn't show the Reaper fleet invading the Milky Way, but actually showed the Reaper fleet in hybernation (or just waking up from it), with Joker handing the most recent scan results to Shep as the Normandy (and possibly a lot of other ships) moves in to unleash hell upon it. How you get to that point is a matter of how you play ME3. There's still a lot of work to be done to do something like that. And it means that ME3 doesn't have to be a space-ship simulator (like Homeworld or for the really old players: Wing Commander), but can still be a normal shooter/RPG hybrid as you work towards that goal.

I think that ME3 will follow the path set by mythology.  How does one kill a god?  Because that's what the Reapers basically are (in comparison to us anyways.)

In most mythology, one doesn't.  They have to find / convince someone of equal power to fight for them, or they trap them... somehow.  I could completely see ME3 being less about destroying the Reapers, and more about cutting off Dark Space from the rest of the galaxy, forever trapping the Reapers.  How in the hell this would be accomplished is beyond me.

They could always go the Star Trek route and somehow send the correct signal / code that tells the Reapers to hybernate.  Perhaps that's why the Geth are so important in this series.

On a side note, I firmly believe that if Bioware is smart, tactically and strategically, the geth fleet will be the main offensive force against the reapers. Consider that the Reapers have weapons that can tear a human vessel in half and kinetic barriers that allow them to literally plow through turian ships without incurring damage. You would need either a multi-generational leap in technology or a method of avoiding the reaper's weapons as well as taking down it's kinetic barriers. In my mind, the neural network-linked geth could coordinate fleet wide precision ftl jumps, negating the reaper weapons advantage by never giving them a firing solution. In order to take down the shields of the reaper you would need a boarding party that isn't vulnerable to indoctrination, ie the geth because of their inability to be hacked for any length of time, to destroy the mass effect core of each individual reaper. Every time a geth ship came out of FTL they'd fire at a reaper allowing the boarding party to get in range. The quarian, krogan, and rachni forces would be in charge of evacuation and ground assaults with the quarian flotilla in charge of evacuating turian, human, asari, roloi (the new race), and any other race with a similar form factor and the Rachni in charge of evacuating the elcor and volus, because of the need for larger halls. The krogans don't have ships and would be in charge of fighting any species the Reapers managed to ally themselves with, alongside the rachni ground forces and human, turian, asari, and salarian militaries. quite the intresting theory... and very possible.

An accepted alternate plan is the classic, "we can't beat you, but we can make the cost of winning so high that it's not worth it to you."  As a result, they agree to go away... you have detent.
