How about leaving the system as it is?

No the system is retarded as it is. Go play a TPS if you want simple gunplay. This is an RPG and I am fed up with BW catering to the shooting action crowd at the expense of RPG and customization elements. Upgrades need to be per gun and each weapon needs stats. Screw the system ME2 has. Was bland and unfulfilling. Might as well not have existed.

I don't think that the weapon system is that lousy, because in ME 2 the different weapons actually differentiate from each other. In ME 1 you just get the same weapons 20 times over.

I would like, that the heavy weapons would also get some sort of upgrades (faster rate of fire, more damage, differerent ammo types, etc.). Like poison grenades for the grenade launcher, that wouldn't affect shields/armor, but would directly damage health.

Or we could just give all the characters just one weapon, that would gain levels instead of the character. Peter Molyneux says that, that is the next big thing in games.;)

I'd like a merged system. I like ME2's clearly differentiated weapons, and that there was only a couple of each weapon type. Clear, concise choices.

I also like customizing my weapons ala ME1; choosing between heatsinks, stability, clip size, et al, and picking ammo types.

That, without having to sort between different levels (just give us level X and be done with it), or deleting hundreds of the blighters would be brilliant.

Agreed I think something like that would be the best option. I liked how ME2's weapons were all very different from each other but disliked the linear and non-interactive upgrade system combining the modification system of ME1 with the distinct weapon styles of ME2 seems like the perfect compromise.

In this way you could further tailor each weapon to your liking while still keeping each weapon unique, i.e; perhaps you could add a 2x magnification scope to the Vindicator increasing it's range and reach quite a bit but doing so would mean you wouldn't have an upgrade slot open to get the increased magazine capacity or w/e

Ocelot - that would be nice wouldn't it. Being able to say equip with EMP grnades/warheads to fight mechs/geth, or switching to say frag grenades to fight organic troops.

v.dog - well I'd imagine that, as in ME2, the 'level' of your weapon would increase with the upgrades you buy, so all assault rifles for example would always be at the same level.

Anyone have any more ideas for shotguns? I have three each for all of the other weapons, would like to get an extra shotgun idea though!

Of course any other suggestions are welcome too :)

Well, I don't really like shotguns all that much (as a vanguard, I still use more smgs and pistols than shotguns), but I'll give it a try.
They could add different ammo types to shotguns, from the real world shotguns:
-Big single slugs, for added range and penetration power
-Flashbangs, so you could blind your enemies temporarily

These would make shotguns more all-around weapons, not just for short range.
I would also like to have an autofire shotgun, so I could really rip those Husks apart (a good example can be found from Max Payne, the Pancor Jackhammer), then I would really like shotguns.

Well I've already added the 'single slug' idea (as sledgehammer rounds) as well as an auto-loader feature.

The flashbang idea is a good one though, certainly adds a unique feature to the shotguns :)

*Choke Modifiers - increase/decrease the choke diameter, either increasing the shot spread(best used for close range, multi-target enviroments) or tightening the shot spread(giving better damage at range, with more pellets hitting).

*Fletchette - ammo type, increased damage to organics, possibly lowered damage to shields, barriers, and armor.

There some more ammo types and few notable differences on the wiki(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shotgun), although how useful they could be or made to be is questionable.

Dragon's Breath are awesome, but not really all that useful in actual battle . . . awesome for a Vanguard power, I suppose, although I'd rather have carnage back.

More visible upgrades. I would like to see something else, at least. Like a grenade launcher, but that's already up there, so maybe someother kind of attachment? Maybe for shotguns, an external thermal clip holder, like some shotguns today have external shell holders.

yuncas - I have read it, and particularly the heating system is what I was hoping for in ME2, and still think is a good idea in ME3. I believe the other idea he floats in terms of weapon variety is pretty much the same as what Terror was suggesting here, which I'd generally agree with.

Eternal - actually Carnage is a great idea. Allows a controlled overload of the shotgun that uses a thermal clip but does massive damage, similar to a small Cain. It would be great for situations where you're about to be overrun.

Stowy - definstely possible with the extra clips, but should carnage or extra clips take the final spot?

I personally think this is a great idea - having upgrades and etc. for your weapons. I got sick of the same weapons every single time I played. Where's the variety? You could scale the weapons to your class (such as for sentinel, get heavier shield damage/armor damage and lay on the cryo afterward,) AND make something that you feel happy about - not letting a weapon's weakness hurt the game experience.

I'd kinda like the idea of being able to pick up and obtain higher level weapons rather than simply everyone getting new copies of newer rifles.

For instance to draw an example, in ME2 you have 3 squadmates trained in rifles. all 3 of them should start with the Avenger, and throughout the course of the game you can pick up a total of 2 vindicators in the game (located in perhaps side missions) and similar trends would apply for snipers and shotguns. That way you have to decide who should get those weapons you pick up, be it a squadmate or yourself (counting yourself it would be 4 rifle specialists).

Upgrades will still be as they are now to avoid further overcomplications.

Also considered cutting down the amount of weaponry you can carry and instead increasing on-hand ammo capacity for reloading. Stuff I considered were each player having a sidearm(pistol or SMG) holstered on the side and a main weapon (heavy, sniper, rifle, or shotgun) which they would carry on their back.

This will also apply to squadmates although squadmates right now already sort of have a system like that, each having only 2 weapons. Having a system like this will compel more careful decision making in what weapons to bring along for each mission rather than simply having 5 different weapons strapped to your body conveniently for any possible occasion.

I'm also in favour of aformetioned modular upgrades for weapons. Infiltrators for example could have an upgrade where snipers they bring into combat will have a laser reticle for aiming, or Engineers being able to carry extra ammo for sidearms, etc.

Nah, ME2's system makes sense in terms of a scifi universe. The only thing that could be improved about it is having a toggle for whether or not you want to automatically swap weapons.

Fluffeh - gotta say I think ME2s system whereby you'd scan weapons was a pretty good one, makes sense for a Spectre too, but yes ME1 did have that nice quandry of who do you give the shiny new rifle to :)

kregano - very true, and of course to make things more unique you'd be able to customise every squad members weapons :)

Okay I've added Carnage back to shotguns as an additional customisation option.

Thanks for all of the ideas/suggestions guys, and of course I'm more than happy to listen to any more you might have. :)
