Automatic Squad Power Use: I am so frustrated I have to vent.

I don't know if this is the right place to post because I don't think it's a technical issue per se, but it is something that needs to get fixed; and sorry if this has been mentioned before . . . it's just I need to vent.

It's so completely moronic that there isn't a setting to prevent team mates from using their defensive or ammo powers.

In the first Mass Effect you could turn off completely any automatic squad power use.

Why, why, why was this option left out in Mass Effect 2!?

Both Grunt and Jacob will throw up their defenses at will. This essentially cripples them because I have to wait for 12 secs of cooldown, and 12 secs of combat time is a long wait. I can't save their power use for just the right moment. They're essential handicapped. If I want to play them, then I try to use their powers before they can use it themselves. Mostly I avoid playing them. What a waste.

And why the heck does Grunt even need Fortification? He's got the most health and armor of the lot. He'll use fortification when he's in good health. Mind numbingly stupid.

However, my experience tonight totally takes the cake in the moronic department, and the reason I'm so frustrated thinking why, why, why did they not leave in the option to manually deal with all squad powers.

Let's say I have Zaeed and Grunt as team mates. Zaeed's got squad disruptor ammo and Grunt has squad inferno ammo. Guess what happens? I switch on distruptor ammo for the enitre squad, and because team mates will automatically turn on their own ammo powers--whether relevent to the enemy or not--Grunt turns his squad power on thus switching everybody to inferno ammo. Then . . .Zaeed, after cooling down, turns on squad distruptor ammo . . . and back and forth, back and forth . . .

How did BioWare not test and see these problems? Why leave out such a simple, easy to implement, option?

Will this get fixed? I have such low expectations that the Xbox version will get such things fixed. I'm just shaking my head at such idocy.

I hope they can do something about it as well, since I had to park Zaeed permanently in the Normandy on one of my games because I got sick of him overriding my warp ammo with disruptor.

Don't give any members the squad ammo upgrade and they won't override your choice.

This is true, but it still needs to be fixed.  I want to be able to use an NPC for squad ammo without them screwing things up, and I don't think that the way it works is how it was intended to work.

I thought there was a game play option to full disable AI power use. I mean, some players prefer it on insanity mode so a desperately needed power can be used when you feel like it on the appropriate enemy, instead of the one closest to dead.

As for squad ammo powers, I avoided those due to said reason.

Now if you want the AI to automatically use powers but lock out specific powers, it is far better to just disable automatic power usage because when one power is used, all powers are on cooldown in ME2, unlike ME1.

Reading people ... it is fun-da-mental!

You cannot turn squad powers off.

In ME2 you have two options: ON--or--Defensive Only

In ME1 you had THREE options OFF ---or---ON---or---Defensive Only

Somewhere between ME1 and ME2 someone at Bioware decided that taking an option away from us (hmmmmm trend development anyone?) was a good idea. It wasn't a f***ing good idea!

If they have personal ammo options, they'll still use them over your choices if you have a squad ammo power.

So, the only way to avoid it is to leave off ammo powers entirely on squadmates.  Unfortunately, the game auto assigns points to ammo powers on some of them, so....
