Right, basically what I'm asking here is, when you complete the game the first time you get the option whether to play it through again or continue, if you choose to continue is there any way of playing it through again after that?

Yes.
After you press continue you can click "New Game" and choose the option "Import ME2 character" which is basically New Game + [ NG+ ]
