I just had a thought of how a possible "clone" storyline could work to bring Shiala back to us in ME3.

We know she (and some of the other colonists) have become unstable due to unforeseen Thorian-related consequences, so I think it would be a simple matter (plot-wise) to continue expounding on this angle. (Consider that I would love a "reunion tour" in ME3, visiting old haunts like Eden Prime, Noveria... Feros ;)) There could easily be a mission (a relevant mission; remember Shiala is probably the biggest Prothean expert in the galaxy now thanks to the Cipher, and I've a feeling the Protheans' importance is not yet depleted) where you return to Feros with the colony again in disarray, this time due less to geth than to the lingering Thorian side-effects. You find Shiala or a mysteriously surviving clone of Shiala in the Thorian's old lair.

Not-clone Shiala's memory has fragmented, Clone Shiala has only bits and flashes of her template's memory, and there you have 80% of the dialogue discrepancies between two different(ish) characters resolved. You would basically have Shiala regress as an ongoing consequence of the Thorian's control so that having her replaced with one of her old clones in players' games who killed her in ME1 is at least buyable if disbelief is properly suspended and you don't have to expend so much extra resources.

Being as I would prefer she is a full squadmate and potential romantic interest (although I'd de fine if she were an NPC romance, as long as we get her back), romance dialogue could make up for the rest of that 20% (perhaps she would only be romanceable if you let her live in ME1; that'd be bold, though, maybe too bold for BW).

I don't think this is too far-fetched, but maybe I just really really want that gentle warrior back. /uploads_user/1070000/1069890/32093.gif

So as we know that Earth will be the stage for the showdown let's just hope that our sweetest asari will be reunited with Shepard before and after the final confrontation. ;)

Perhaps we may see Feros again, as planet for refugees. If Shiala is alive we won't worry about them.

Let's also hope it doesn't go the way of romances currently in ME2 (sans the new Liara dlc) and be all about "gettin' some". I swear when I think about it, that's exactly where it was going to go in regards to Shiala after she made her parting statement.

Anybody else in here concerned over the fact that Feros has been omitted from the PS3 port of ME2? It leaves me worried that Shiala's future potential plot importance and screentime will be minimal at best. I certainly hope that is not the case.

me too

But it seems that PS3-Shep doesn't need a cipher to interpret the visions.

I am also concerned by this. Why does Bioware always chuck the best NPCs down the proverbial drain?

I didn't know that. Why would they omit Feros when the very reason you're able to get to the conduit resides on that world? Without Feros you don't get the prothean cipher which allows Liara to tell you where you need to go (Ilos) and also allows you to understand Vigil when you get there.  Well, you actually are able to make some sense of the garbled holographic message.  The cipher is a vital piece of the puzzle that lets you defeat Saren and Sovereign.

I heard the bit with the Thorian wasn't there, but no Feros at all? That sucks... Shiala is one of my favourite NPCs, if she's not in the PS3 version then I'll be very sad :(

If I find that Shiala's not included I'm sending my copy to Bioware directly and asking them for a full refund. Heck, if I feel the game is a mess I'll send my copy to Bioware and ask them for a full refund.

I'm sure we meet Shiala in the interactive comic introduction the ps3 has and then hopefully in the game - but then again I'm sometimes too optimistic

I like that picture and all, but it just seems off to me. If you look at the one involving Nassana it appears to be more proportioned so it looks natural.

I'd love that, and I hope that she is included in the comic introduction, but I'm not too optimistic. Shiala's plot role was to explain the nature of the Prothean Cipher, the Thorian, and how she acquired it via melding with the Thorian itself. With the Thorian absent from this introduction, any Shiala appearance would have to be wildly out of context, and it would also make little sense for PS3 players when she is encountered on Illium, and explains that she is still infected with Thorian spores.

I sincerely hope that she will be featured in this abridged version of ME1, but I'm not very optimistic. I fear that she has been written out of the PS3 version of the trilogy. :(

Maybe it wasn't included because bioware wants to make shiala's and the colony's survival canon for the story. Thats what I'm hoping for anyway lol. I doubt bioware would bother to tease us with her in ME2 just to not include her in the third game.

@yfullman

That's fine if that's what they want to do, but it alters any relationship that could be had with Shiala if she's given a bigger role in ME3 that involves a romance.

I'm curious, is there any information on whether or not Gianna Parasini is included in the Noveria portion of the comic?

Sure.

IGN Preview.

Quote from the article:

Overall, the comic section is well done, though it does skip over some
portions of the story you spend a considerable amount of time on in the
original game, like the Thorian (an ancient plant with mind-control
powers).

That's just plain depressing.  If they cut out Feros from the PS3 version, then it's like they're writing it out from the rest of the series altogether.

It'll be like Shiala never existed at all... /uploads_user/1070000/1069890/32098.gif

Kind of a crummy way to find out that she's not going to be a squad member in the third game.  I'm suddenly a lot less keen on buying the PS3 version than I was before.

I don't want to believe that Bioware decided just cut Feros completely. Hell, there is not only Shiala, there is also the Cypher. Such things shouldn't be ignored.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Cypher in Mass Effect.;) If you get the reference...

But yes, what are they going to do--retcon that Shep can just sort of understand Prothean? No, wait, actually that is very plausible--Liara!<_<
