Greetings, all!

I've played both Mass Effect games as an Infiltrator.  I was on Veteran difficulty, reaching level 43 in ME1 and 26 (I believe) in ME2.

I'm currently playing ME1 again on Hardcore as a Vanguard.  I wanted to unlock Lift, as I understand it's a great for Infiltrators.  I can already see why, as hoisting a geth juggernaut into the air before blasting it with my shotgun is lots of fun and never gets old.  I have Kaiden and Wrex in my party to unlock their passive bonuses. However, I was dismayed to discover that you can't add bonus talents to an existing ID when starting a New Game.

My goal is to play through ME1 on Insanity as my Infiltrator and reach level 60.  The question now becomes, do I start over from scratch and do more than one Insanity playthrough just to be able to use Lift, or would Liara provide enough biotic support that I can use my existing ID?  I want to bring both of these playthroughs (Hardcore Vanguard and Insanity Infiltrator) through to ME2 so that both stand at 30 in anticipation of ME3.

What are your thoughts?  Thanks in advance!

I don't think you can add skills to existing characters, no. But now that you've finished ME2 once, you get a +25% xp bonus (that's right, 25!) to all new characters. So if you import any character from ME1 or start a new one, you should easily be able to reach lvl 30 in one play through of ME2.

And since you want to reach lvl 60 in ME1, you'll need to go through the game twice more. Because your infiltrator will not be able to reach level 60 from 43 in one playthrough. And also, I'm not sure you've even unlocked level 60 yet. You must reach level 50 with one Shepard to unlock levels 51-60 for all subsequent playthroughs.

So I think you should aim for level 50 with your Vanguard now, so you can go past 50 with your infiltrator on the second run. Otherwise I'm not sure you'll reach 60 in your third playthrough.

Thanks for the tips.  Yes, my Vanguard is there to hit 50, unlock 60 for my Infiltrator, and let me go through all the Renegade choices I missed the first time through.

So after unlocking 51-60, starting at 43 on Insanity will not get my Infiltrator to 60?  Is starting over from level 1 preferable?

Starting from level 1 you can get to (I think) level 58 in one play through by doing everything, I mean absolutely everything. Trouble is 58-60 takes about the same amount of xp as 1-58. I don't think it really matters if you start from level 1 or 43 from 43 you'll have to do 2 almost complete play throughs to get to level 60.

Note: There are actually a few incredibly boring infinite XP possibilities in ME1 which you could use depending on how you feel about that. Also a few infinite paragon/renegade posibilities. So it is actually possible to get a maxed out character in ME1 after 1 play through if you really want.

Figures someone with the Illusive Man as an avatar would talk about infinite XP exploits. ;) In all seriousness I did max out my female Shepard's Renegade points before leaving Noveria just so I wouldn't have to worry about it.

Thanks for the tips.  It does sound like I'll be leaning more towards starting a brand new game... considering the things I've unlocked so far and the immediate availability of Spectre Master Gear I actually find myself looking forward to the challenge of Insanity.  B)

or, if you've had your fill and your using the pc version you can always use the console and just give yourself the amount of xp needed for 60... After playing through ME1 7 times I have no qualms about using the cheats.

Unfortunately both of my ME games are the 360 versions.  They look fine and play fine, and I don't think my PC has the hardware to give me the mind-blowing picture quality I've been seeing of ME2 clips on YouTube.

It's nice, though, for when I want to play Mass Effect and my wife wants to use the Internet or play Dragon Age, or vice versa.

You don't need to reach level 50 to unlock the last 10 levels, just finish the game once.

So far I'm still more interested in replaying the game as an Infiltrator and having him as my primary Shep.  Vanguard is fun and the Renegade choices are too (especially with Jennifer Hale's voice acting) but Infiltrator is still my preferred class.  I just prefer sniping, I suppose.

Oh, I was just pointing out that you don't need to be level 50 to unlock them just in case, not how you should play the game.  Plus, I have learned to love the sniping too! :o

Ok, my mistake. It was so long ago that I finished ME for the first time. Evidently I had forgotten how to unlock the last 10 levels. But good, then it seems they are already unlocked for OP.
