Zevran can die.
Wynne can die.
Lelianna can die.
You can skip getting the dog. (unless you are a human noble)
Alistair can die (at the end, or at the landsmeet)
You can skip getting Shale.
You can tell Morrigan to take a hike.
You can leave Sten.
Loghain can die.
Oghren cannot.
So in a way I suppose it makes sense that he would be the one to be the party member, every other character would have to have certain terms or conditions to make it into your party. Although I would like Loghain as a party member, or anyone else really, but I did enjoy Oghren.

But if you are right JigPig, that is a good point.
That also brings up the fact that DA producers must have planned that out, to keep Oghren available for an expanasion. They very easily could have kept a more popular or likable char alive for the expansion.

My guess is, he's going to be a neo-tabula rasa, he's going to have a completely new template based on how the devs. would have specced him had he reached, say, lvl 20-21, and "your" Oghren will be ignored. Good thing there's in-game respec.
But I suspect whatever items you gave Oghren -- gone. (Of course, he may start with some better higher Tier gear so now it won't matter much.) His approval will start at midpoint - again. Well, hey, he hasn't seen you in - what? - 1 year? - I guess your relationship has to restart from neutral. Time to rebuild his approval - again.

JigPig that is not true, I heard you can ****** Oghren off so much and get him to leave or fight him......I have not personally done it. Has anyone else?

While I have never tried this myself, my strategy guide says that you can make him so angry that he will fight you, and you decide whether or not to kill him.

On one of my last saves his approval was as low as it got, I talked to him in camp and he had the same old dialog choices.
However if I am wrong, I'm gonna make a playthrough where I kill him and see if he's still there in Awakening, if he is, I'm gonna lmao.

why even give people a second chance at getting the dog when you're going to abandon it in the expansion???

the game expansion just became a total a pass for me...i would have rather them not included any of the old companions...

It's not "abandoning". It's putting them on hold for future releases.

Because the dog can die.

Some characters engage in suggestive dialogue—mostly a dwarf character that makes several comments about sex, mistresses, and breasts. In one sequence, a demon character appears topless.

Judging from the ESRB it will be the same old Oghren:Some characters engage in suggestive dialogue—mostly a dwarf character that makes several comments about sex, mistresses, and breasts. In one sequence, a demon character appears topless.
Then he will do the exact same as old Oghren had done: stay in camp and pretend he doesn't even exist.
Such a shame, he has such a nice background, and BW took so much effort to make their dwarfs different from the classical dwarf stereotype of every fantasy book/ game.
And Oghren, with his wife that ran into the Deep Roads, turned to her own sex, leaving Oghren behind. He had so much potential for a broken or guilt ridden character that is really interesting, but no, they used all this to turn him a cliche stereotype drunken dwarf with bad and unfunny jokes so you can copy/paste him from any random fantasy book/game/movie around.

if anything, wynne is the worst character, shes boring and most of her dialogue is just motherly chats about who you should be dating. i killed her first opportunity i got.

I'm serious, if this was anything incredibly gameplay-altering, I'd be all with players being in an uproar about a possibly bad feature/unbalanced aspect. But this is characters, there are plans for Oghren, and I for one am very interested in seeing the role he will play in the 'sequel'.
I'd be very disappointed in Bioware if they started giving lip service to their hardcore fans over their own creative decisions.

Thank god they're following their own designs for the story of the game and aren't catering to the masses.

I can livewith Ohgren. And if he's stopped with that horrible snort noise I might let him leave the camp, or the keep...or the kennel.
