I think his personality in these days fits with Joker's philosophy '' Any man who had a very bad day can change ''
In Orzammar its said that he was very respected and one of the best warriors around till Branka the B..ch left him behind and starts her journey to Anvil of the Void. The fact that he not only had 1 bad day but had 2 very bad years. I think that could effect someone really bad.
And Orzammar's strict rules can be depressing. They even took his weapon from him because he wanted to be a real Warrior. And ale...... can ease the pains but its a dwarven tradition to drink till you become too drunk to remember
His real self shows himself at the Gates of Denerim. He might still be a funny character but I am hoping he will become much more of his old self.

All & all Oghren is the best choice and is certinly one of my fav team mates, clearly the haters need more camp chat time & to take him to the fade & the gauntlent to understand him better

I don't mind Oghren being the returning character. I just hope he's a little less gross. But then I guess that's part of his personality and ...well, I wouldn't say "charm"
Sounds like he may have mellowed a bit from the description on the site.

So did Oghren win that bet with Bann Teagan?
Yes, but Bann Teagan never loses. Never.

Except to us, and to a child, and to Loghain... and to Oghren.
Edit: And Zombies.

hes my fav, great acting and dialogue on Bioware's part. Oghren has such a funny personality.
Too many people get Oghren late in the game, maybe that's why he has a larger role in awakening

I decided to get him earlier (after Shale and Wynne) and took him around a lot to get to know him. I found out he's not so bad after all. His jokes are a bit sleazy but hey, he's the comic relief at camp so I don't mind
So guys, give him a chance. If you talk to him a lot you'll learn a lot about his personality that would make us think BioWare made the right choice of bringing him back.

I would have liked Dog to return myself, though. Never understood why he was never even acknowledged at the end of the game (especially if you played the human noble. He's your first companion...). Shale and Wynne I can understand, since they are off elsewhere.
On a ME side note. This will probably mean that Legion will be back for an expansion or ME3 since he had very little playtime as well.

If they had included a companion that many fans liked (ie Leliana) than their would have been a huge fan uproar, that Bioware is ignoring the others. To solve that they include a companion who must of us feel neutral about.
I would have thought most would feel neutral with dog. He's our four-legged, anti-mage missile.

Oghren was never my favorite (too much of a stereotypical drunken dwarf and Bruenor Battlehammer/Gimli clone)
So far I agree and I would've preferred any other former group member, even the dog. <_<

Either way he'll be stuck back in camp as much as possible. If I buy the expansion that is... *sigh*

Off topic:
*Crossing fingers*
I really hope so too. Legion was a blast to be with in the final mission.
On topic:
I tried bringing Oghren more often than usual and his actually funny to be around with. His conversations with companions (specially Alistair: "I can smell purity from a mile away.") were actually comical. So I guess its not so bad for him to star in Awakenings.
