theres a codex tab called spell combination.  i found one by using the spell sleep with my elf mage then using horror on someone and it did insane damage...around 140 and this is at lvl 6.  the tooltip of the spell combo says "weaker willed monsters will be killed outright."  i don't know if that means they automatically die or the damage is just too much for their puny hps to handle.  both horror and sleep are under the entropy tree

anyway....

I was wonderin if anyone could post any spell combinations they find while playing their mage.
thanks

I was just saying to myself last night that this is one part of the game's mechanics that I have NOT explored. Good idea.

Cast grease than either fire blast or fireball... use the elemental resist reducing spell (can't think of its name off the top of my head) then the lifetap spell =). I'm thinking of trying grease + cold and seeing if that does anything.

Grease and fire is fun. You can do that one with traps and fire arrows too.

There are 10.

Grease Fire is terrible. Nightmare is good for taking down a single target quickly. Paralysis Explosion is awesome if you can keep your party out of the blast, it lasts quite a long time. Shockwave is not so good as a combination, useful for getting your tank out of Force Field more than the effects of the combination itself. Shattering is effective, particularly with Cone of Cold and Stone Fist/Crushing Prison -- if your party gets a critical off it's just icing on the cake.

An excellent combination that is not technically a "combo" is also Sleep + Waking Nightmare. There are no special effects as a result, but using Sleep helps guarantee Waking Nightmare will land and it lasts quite a while and is great for large groups.

Hi I am going to ask a really stupid question here..:) I am trying to understand the idea of the combination spells? When I select a spell it works of course, however, if I select another is replaces the one I first selected, so my question is how exactly do you work the combination's when the next spell you press replaces the first? Thanks

of course you first have to CAST the first spell before you can cast the second. :P

it depends by the combo...  for some combos both spells used are wasted, for others just one is wasted others have just a different effect so it vary a lot
also not all the combo need a strict order... if you are combining 2 non instant spells generally you get the combo in both ways

getting alistair to taunt then wynne to cast the forcefeild spell on him .. then get the whole party to mash at either the really strong enemies or lots of enemies. works wonders against the archdemon and the high dragon

Yeah but this is no combo. Forcefield + Crushing prison is one.

I tried the storm combo, or I tried at least placing all 3 "storms" over each other but nothing happened.

I've used Storm of the Century. You have to be careful with it- the radius of the combined storm is MUCH larger than the individual Blizzard and Tempest templates. Also, you lose the freeze/slowing effects of the blizzard; the SotC is pure damage. But it's a LOT of damage.

It's not an IWIN button for every encounter, but it's very useful when the situation allows for good use.

Also note that when you cast the second storm, you get drained for an extra 100 mana to pay for the combo- you're not going to be casting much else for a while.

Not sure if this is a combo, but when I cast Cone of Cold and then cast Earth Fist on the same creature, it will "SMASH" the creature and kill it outright. Works wonders on Ogres and anything else I've tried it on - unless they pass a resistance check. It looks pretty cool, too! :)
