1. Adept/Engineer - a tie because both builds are very versatile depending on the weapon specialization and maxxing out some of their 2nd tier skills

2. Infiltrator - one of the best classes in the game is also the most fun simply because of the wonders that is tactical cloak

3. Vanguard - best class for close combat and fine for long range, but the lack of options at middle range makes me dislike the class' limited abilities

Haven't tried sentinel yet due to lack of cc powers and soldier? Soldier seems really boring after playing the adept/engineer and infiltrator.

I might try sentinel in future playthroughs but from what I've seen of the soldier, it's just not a class that appeals at all to me.

I know someone is going to make a comment about this one:

1.Engineer
2.Infiltrator
3.Adept
4.Sentinel
5.Vanguard
6.Soldier

But I still think the soldier is really fun. My number 1 class is just amazingly fun, whereas soldier would "just" be really fun.

The only comment I'm going to make is your absolutely right that Soldier should be on the bottom.

My list goes:
1. Sentinel
2. Vanguard
3. Infilitrator
4. Engineer
5. Adept
6. Soldier

Haven't tried sentinel yet due to lack of cc powers

Huh? We Sentinels have possibly the best CC/power in the game, its called Tech Armor and it makes all enemies go "omgwtfbbqonthefloorNOW"

Why would you make the adept guide first if you like Engineer more?<_<

Haha, guess I should try out the sentinel then - I'm not really too fond of the vanguard right now. Heavy charge is awesome when coupled with champion spec, but it doesn't seem to gel with my playstyle so far.

I really like the variety of options the adept and engineer builds have in dealing with all ranges of the game so I tend to avoid classes that lack options.
This doesn't apply to infiltrators simply because infiltrators are the stealth/rogue build which I have always loved - plus, the cloak is versatile enough to be used with either assault rifle or shotgun.

You might like it, you can do alot with it. I prefer close and mid-range combat myself, but even if you pick Power Armor you'll have no problem hitting all targets, its not difficult to hit the entire room. Your also given more freedom over your build than any other class I'd say.

Note: Not trying to Derail thread.

I made the Adept guide first because of the complaints about it :). Seemed like people needed more help with it. Theres seriously a hair's difference between those top 3 for me though. Also i'm kind of a Tech Fanboy.

1) Sentinel

2) Adept

3) CQC Infiltrator

4) Vanguard

I've barely started an Engineer, and haven't touched Soldier.

I started the game hating the thermal clip nonsense and mostly played in cover using biotics.

I hated ranged sniper due to thermal clips, when I saw thisisme8's CQC infiltrator and gave it a try.

I had previously started vanguard and kept dying a lot, and after playing the game a few times tried it again, I've noticed that after playing the vanguard, I play other classes more aggressively (even when I start a new sentinel) After just finishing another sentinel run, I'm on another vanguard, and other than I hate hearing "can't get a lock" when something is 3 inches from my face due to a gap in the tile between doors/platforms......

I'm used to playing tanks that have damage reduction, so defensively mostly.

I like how the infiltrator is always high or at least middle in the list while the other classes depend on whether or not you prefer RPG combat with lots of pausing (adept/engineer/sentinel) or real-time shooting action (vanguard/soldier).

The shotguns don't suck. You just have to know when and how to use them. The excavator shotgun takes up a huge amount of damage with one shot . And the second one you get from the game is a semi automatic shotgun pull the trigger as fast as you can. What so wrong woith that?

I can't play casters for any length of time in any game. I need to be in the action at all times, and the Soldier and Vanguard give me those -- these are the only two classes I've beaten the game with, and the Vanguard completed it 3 times so far. I've briefly tried the Infiltrator, Sentinel, and Adept. I'll never try the Engineer.

1.Infiltrator- I'm a good shot, but it can be a great tactical class if you get bored of sniping. Sometimes it's great just to hack a mech and watch them kill things for you and just snipe the stronger guys.

2. Complete opposite of the Infiltrator in terms of gameplay which made it refreshingly fun.

3. Adept/Engineer-They play out similarly on insanity. It's a nice change of pace from the heavy guns.

4. Soldier- Nothing wrong with this class. It's just a straight up Infiltrator or Vanguard is more fun for me than a combo of each, which the soldier is.

5. Sentinel- Yawn-Too much defense, not enough cool offense.

Soldier-Can play an aggressive up close game or a distance game depending on your mood but I'd rather play a straight up Infiltrator or Vanguard

1. Adept - Biotic Combos/Warp Detonations just never get old for me.

2. Vanguard - Once you adapt to the play style the Vangaurd eats danger and craps victory!

3. Engineer - So many awesome powers, so few squad points.

4. Infiltrator - Getting those juicy head shots is incredibly satisfying but it started getting a bit old some 15 hours in.

5. Sentinel - I personally found this a bit of a "jack of all trades" class. I found the Adept did biotics better and the Engineer did tech better and the Sentinel was stuck between. Tech Armour is a good skill but I found the class lacked focus. Just my opinion.

6. Soldier. Found all the gun play a little dull. Kind of a "wake me up when everyone is dead".

1. Vanguard - Very fun and powerful class to play on Insanity, although your screen will be glowing red fairly often. If you want to play a class that literally "lives on the edge", then the vanguard is your best bet.

2. Infiltrator - Basically the opposite of a vanguard in that you spend the majority of your time taking out enemies from a distance. It's nice hitting those head shots.

3. Adept - Warp explosions are awesome! I probably died the least on insanity with my adept.

Those three are the only classes that I've beat the game with on insanity. When I have time, I'll start either a Sentinel or Engineer play-through next.

1. Sentinel - I believe this is what canonical Shepard is. You don't have all these crazy skills to learn and pick Soldier and ignore all of those crazy awesome Biotics and Tech skillz. And you're like an unstoppable Juggernaut with Tech armor (If I could rename Sentinel I'd name it Juggernaut!) and when you train with Assault Rifles you become the Ultimate badass!

2. Vanguard - Not as good as Sentinel, no tech abilities. But you do get Charge! Booyah!

3. Adept - BIOTICS FTW.

4. Engineer - Not as good as Adepts because they can't train in BIOTICS but still, better than just plain Soldier. BORING

5. Infiltrator - Gawd I hate sniper rifles.

6. Soldier - No tech? No biotics!?! NOOOOO!!!!
