Right, so in all of my playthroughs I have the dinner thing with Kelly, I not actually going to "romance" her, don't want Scale Itch, I just can't be arsed to feed my fish. And I noticed that no matter what I do I get Renegade points... why, exactly?

Dunno. Seems to happen to everyone, though: +5 to both paragon and renegade, if I remember. One can speculate why this might be, though it would be nice to actually know.

Hmm, are you romancing any character at the time? I'm sure the "dinner" is a romance option. So flirting with Kelly whilst banging Tali/Jack/Miri can be considered bad. Huh, who knew!

Well, it could be argued that purposefully leading a woman on when you have no romantic interest in her, all because you want her to feed your fish is, in fact, a Renegade action.

But maybe that's just me.

Kelly is a real freak! I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't mind having a threesome with you and your LI. She's wild like that.

I think that quote right there nets you 15+ renegade points...

I guess it comes out even if it's equal amounts Paragon and Renegade points. I've noticed there are a lot of little actions throughout the game that give you both. I figure it's just a little bonus to all around negotiation skills as a reward for interacting with characters.

That's what I'm thinking too.

On my playthroughs, I assumed it was because my Shep was still technically in a relationship with Liara (even though she's dead to me!), & having dinner with Kelly was therefore cheating... or at least not 100% faithful.

Shepard can't even have dinner with a girl without his ex blowing up his pager?

Spreading scale-itch around the Normandy is considered hostile and aggressive renegade behavior, Shepard.

Please report to the Medical Bay for a brochure on how to manage your newly contracted disease.

Oh you, EDI. :D

I also wondered if that was the case since my original character was a carry-over already in a relationship, but I still got +5 renegade with a new character before he'd started chatting anyone else up.  I do have him planned as an utter cad, though, so maybe it was just preemptive.

I think that because your renegade/paragon score is what affects your charm/intimidate they just make it easier to gain points for it.

It's a post-BG2 Bioware game meaning it's hack-job writing and logic skills.

This doesn't look like an accidental necro as much as "digging up threads to take shots at BW in".

A very good point. Also, if you can't be bothered to feed your fishes, why buy them in the first place?

A little flirting and dinner is an obligation now? You can't be the kind of friends who flirt with each other for fun and have no intent of it going anywhere? It's just dinner.

It's never just "anything" with Shep.

I just wanted to "talk" to Liara, and it turns out I'm her soulmate, or something.

It's like he/she is a walking Axe commercial.

I have recently come to the unfortunate realization that BioWare has no way of knowing how interested we are in a character.

This means the game is unable to differentiate between a nice comment and a proposal of marriage.

This has the unfortunate side effect of making my Shepard incredibly jumpy and nervous about paying the slightest compliment to people for fear so much as a smile will be interpreted as a declaration of eternal love.

It also makes me incredibly confused, as apparently I can practically verbally copulate with Jacob without initiating the romance but I can tell Jack I'm not interested in her and then in the next conversation have her want to discuss our relationship.

There is only one explanation: everyone is on drugs. Including BioWare staff. I'm thinking it's pheromone supplements.

That, or they just suck at showing real interpersonal communication.

It could be both.

Although I wouldn't mind seeing an interrupt system for such things.
