Why all the hate for Oggy?

Oggy: Well I don't have the equipment for that, but whatever gets you ready..
That's not an exact quote, but it's an example of the kind of hilarious dialogue you get from him. His personal quest was great.
I'm glad he's coming back, so why are so many people not?
I've heard it's cause he wasn't very deep or some such? Does every character really need so much depth. He's simple. He likes fighting and drinking with a side of woman. He was also a tragic figure in a sense. Abandoned by his wife and House, dumped for another woman.
It's nice to have someone simple and with such great lines.
Is it cause he's just another warrior. I admit there are like ten of those and literally two mages, one of which gets delegated a healer.
So why all the Oggy hate?

Personally speaking, the only reason I didn't bond with Oghren so much is because A) I got him late in the story, and

its not that people hate him, its that they are upset their favorite character isn't being brought back in his place.

That I can understand. One of these days Bioware is gonna have to find a way to let people choose one companion from a previous game in a series to return, then everyone wins. However, that would be expensive.
I suspect that David Lucas had a thing in his contract to be used in more then one game or something like that. He's been around a while, and Bioware uses him a lot.
Still, to no play the game cause he will be there is just a bit much.

He's a good character, but doesn't really add much to the story and he doesn't seem as fleshed out as the other characters(more of a comic relief char). Apparently he'll have more depth this time around.

I just can't ever seem to get his approval over 83 or so, even on my dwarf rogue. I guess I don't speak drunken dwarf good enough.
I don't know what I have it at now. Depending on a certain choice, you may loose ten points of approval from him. However, he's pretty easy as well. All his gifts are basically the same.

Maybe they should have had Oggy on the surface, in some pub or jail somewhere drunk instead of pulling Sten from the cage. Sten is an interesting character, but personally I barely have ever used him and he's fickle as it gets. All the crap that pisses him off seems random

at around 84 or 85 aproval he will tell you how much you're a friend for him and you will get a nice + 13 approval..
Just bring him along or give him a secondary gift.Go to the camp or not and speak to him.

Tank warrior in mhari
Dps warrior in oghren
Dual wield rogue in the dwarf chick
Circle mage tradition in Anders
apostate mage tradition in Velanna
Leliana and morrigan wouldnt make sense so much if you're playing the new warden commander given their endings Wynne barely seemed to manage this kind of adventure 5 years ago, the dog seems obvious, Sten's ending doesnt really make for much of a return, Zevram was pretty attached to your old char, alistair seems to be king in the videos....Oghren is pretty much the only one who doesnt seem intrinsically tied to your old char or out of the country.

Or, they came up with a clever excuse to defend their choice, but i'll go with the first reason

In my latest playthrough I've taken Oghren for the first time as well as Shale and Morrigan. There is so much sarcasm in the air it's fantastic!

What annoys most people is that he isn't their personal favourite. Certianly there are characters I liked more, so he wouldn't be my first choice if this game where made just for me, but there wheren't any characters I didn't like (well there was one, but I wont destroy this thread by saying who) and it makes more sense to bring Oghren back than someone you can kill when you meet them the first time.
I think the thing that put me off..was the Awakening team..suggesting that we were going to see an "old returning favorite"
That was misleading. Simply because..it turns out it was the Awakening team's returning favorite, plus catering to a few guys in the crowd that like that cliched drunk dwarf, burping farting sort of thing. You know..locker room humour.
At any rate..I don't hate him, but I don't like him either..call it personality clash if you will, or just call it..I wish they had done something more original with his character.
He'll be tolerated in my play-throughs, only because it's necessary...would have much rather seen Sten or another character with deeper meaningful character developpment come back...than Oghren.
And no I do not care there are no romances..this time around, matter of fact..thank God for that, ...Oghren..eewww can you imagine? *becomes ill*

Some people don't appreciate all the humor in Dragon age.(A few actually think there's too much. Which.. I don't understand, but whatever.) Some people just didn't look to see the character beneath the jokes and liquor. And some people didn't take him along with them simply because of how late in the game you get him. Which is part of the reason why he's the "returning favorite".
You'd never be able to romance Oghren even if there were romances. Oghren is with Felsi, and has a child in Awakenings. I don't understand why people feel the need to say how gross they think it is. I thought it was hilarious when Oghren hit on you when he was drunk. Especially if you play a male character. ("I'm a MAN, OGHREN!" "Nobody's perfect.")

All depends what your definition of humour is...Oghren's brand ..belongs in the boy's lockerroom. I guess I appreciate humour that has a little more depth to it. *wink*

and there are other companions I'd rather have as a returning playable companion than him.

I actually didn't speak to Oggy much after I got him in my first playthrough, for some reason I started rushing or was to focused on Morrigan or something. Boy what I missed..Oggy's drunk conversations are some of the best. I don't drink myself, so I find people who are drunk to be funny, and then there is the st uff that comes out of his mouth. All that combined with the acting talent of David Lucas.
