I'm a pretty big comics fan, (especially Brubaker and Bendis) and I was wondering if Redemption is worth reading. Liara's by no means my favorite character, but I like her ME2 character much better than in ME1, where I found her somewhat fragile and Mary Sue-ish.

I am getting Redemption and I am finding it very good. It adds a lot to the story and Liara is more fleshed out and shows how she survived digging around on hostile planets.

Yeah it's pretty cool, but it's been pretty popular, so I don't know how hard it is to find them.

Dark Horse will release a Hardcover set of all four comics in June (it could be referred as a Graphic Novel), if you're willing to wait.

Redemption is great. If you liked ME2 Liara better than ME1, Redemption tells the story of that transition, and seems to be handling it pretty nicely so far. But be quick - issues 1 and 2 sold out. They're being reprinted though so there's still time.

Also, John Jackson Miller writes the Redemption script (from Mac Walters' story) and Omar Francia does the art. They worked on the Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Legacy comics respectively so if you read those books and enjoyed them you know you're in for a treat. If you've not read them I can highly recommend those two as well...

I would say yes. If you want to know the whole backstory concerning what happened to Shepard's body (after the destruction of SR1) and how it ended up in Cerberus' hands, then you need the comics, as that is the story that they tell. The only bad thing is that they are $3.50 and too short. In ME2 the only thing you hear about this story is that Liara admits to obtaining the body from the Shadow Broker, at the cost of her friend's life.

Same with the books. I just re-read "Ascension" and it now makes a lot more sense (now that I have played ME2). It also gives a lot of insight into (again) the backstories that feed into ME2 and, additionally, set up a lot of possibilities for storyline in ME3.

I have to hand it to Bioware as to how they have integrated the comics and paperbacks into the storyline. Without them there are a lot of holes in the storyline to fill in. Pretty good marketing, unlike the very poor job they did with the Collector's Edition of Collector Armor and Collector weapon.  That was not well thought out.   In ME3, the next race of new aliens will be the "Limiteds" or "Specials".

I saw that.  I noticed it's being billed as Mass Effect volume 1: Redemption.  The "volume 1" bit makes me think that at least one of the other two Mass Effect comic stories Mac Walters had planned has been greenlit.  Here's hoping for a story telling the origin of Archangel (Mass Effect: Salvation?)...

I think it's all four.  If you notice, each one of the ME: Redemption comics is 32 pages long. taking out ads and the covers it comes out to about 24 pages; the new Graphic Novel would contain all four stories. 24 x 4 = 96, and hence it is 96 pages long.  Check it out:

But, yeah I hope you are right that there could more comic iterations of the ME Universe.  BioWare has humongous depth in this story and a comic book can be made of just about anything here.  I would love a story about Garrus' journey becoming Arcangel, and seeing Mordin's days as an STG and implimenting the refined genophage would be awesome as well.

Already being a comic book fan, it's a real treat to have an extra dose of Mass Effect to tide me over, I would definitely check it out.

And man, that would be awesome! I hope that with issues selling out it will encourage Dark Horse and Mac Walters to conjure up more!

No. It's pretty atrocious stuff. Badly written, badly plotted, badly drawn.

Even if, for some unknown reason, you like the FUBAR ME2 Liara.

I like it. Enough that I let someone talk me into picking up a full size #1 instead of just having the junior copy from the Collector's Edition.

iirc Liara doesn't know if her friend is alive or dead, just that the Shadow Broker got him.
