 Mass Effect 2 Trailer Contest

Hello Mass Effect fans! Did
you not pre order Mass Effect 2 from Gamestop? Would you like to get your hands
on a set of exclusive Terminus Gear? Well here’s your chance!

A set of Terminus Gear will
be given away to the winners of this contest. What is the contest? It is a Mass
Effect 2 trailer contest. You all have no doubt seen the ME2 launch trailer.
Bioware did an excellent job of piecing that video together with a great song. We’re
giving the community a chance now to make a Mass Effect 2 “theatrical” trailer,
but with this catch – you have to use YOUR Shepard. Whether its female or male,
either one works.  Bottom line is,
you must present your Shepard to the community in a ME2 trailer. A group of
judges will vote on the best trailers. (See the guidelines below) You want to
show us why your Shepard is the best. Show his/her good qualities, flaws,
strengths, etc…

This is the chance to show
people your own canon Shepard and why he/she is vital to saving the galaxy.

Contest Guidelines –

• The trailer must be 2
minutes minimum.

• You must use music from
the Mass Effect 2 soundtrack, the Heart of Courage song used in the ME2
Launch trailer, or any epic Instrumental music. You may not use music with lyrics.

• Your video must be
uploaded to YouTube and a link to the video sent via private message to
PoliteAssasin. Submissions will not be made in the thread. In order for your
submission to count, I must receive a message from you containing the link.

• No subtitles visible in
the trailer footage.

You may post the links of
your videos in the thread to present to the community and comment on each others
work.

Final Info -

This contest will be open
for submissions starting now, until May 30th. Then the submissions
will be reviewed by our judges and the winners announced shortly after that. The
judges will be looking for videos that have effort put into them. Good quality footage
will increase your chances of winning. The whole point of this is presentation.
The person who presents their unique Shepard the best will get the grand prize.

1st and 2nd place winners will receive Terminus Gear.

Terminus Gear provided by Javierabegazo and ShaqH.

With all of that said and
done, good luck guys. We will be looking forward to seeing your videos.

Best regards,

 -Polite

PC Mod/Editing Tools:

http://www.radgameto...com/bnkdown.htm
RAD Video Tools to convert the pre-rendered movies to editable formats.

mod.gib.me/masseffect2/audioextract_rev27.zip
For extracting voice files. Very handy in that it specifies who's speaking each line, so you don't have to extract every file from the archive.

No HUD Heads -- Removes squad icons at the bottom of the screen (visible only on death)

No Selection Box -- Removes the Quickbar from the top of the screen (more accurately, makes it invisible)

No Red Veins of Death -- Removes the "eye veins" that appear on-screen when Shepard's health falls too low

Crosshair Colors -- Change the color of your weapon's crosshairs. I'm listing this as a reference because I haven't seen anything that removes crosshairs completely, although this mod may camouflage them to a certain extent.

TexMod may be required to use some of these modifications. Refer to individual project pages for more info.

Winners:

1st place - The Leader by Cachx

2nd place - The Renegade by BlackVeldt

Congratulations guys. I will be sending the winners an email to confirm they are still active before sending the prizes. Enjoy. Also I want to thank all of the participants for making this contest interesting and diverse. I've added all of the entrants that are still up on YouTube below. We will be running another Mass Effect contest soon, stay tuned for more information on that.

A lot of people still don't have the armor. This is a way for people to compete for it. You can get it for free here, or you can purchase one on Ebay. Which would be better for you? Now thats your decision. ;) The purpose of this contest isn't only the prize, but for people to showcase their personal Commander Shepards.

The best videos are going to be made on PCs with mods, and we all know what PC players do when they want access to specific DLC...

But yes, I am interested in seeing these trailers. I've already got all the gear but maybe I'll even toss in an attempt.

Would this be a good place to maybe post links to mods which remove UI elements and allow for ghost cams during gameplay? I assume the "no subtitle" requirement is there to keep as much cinematic-quality intact as possible, and you can only add to that by giving prospective movie makers access to optional tools to hide even more unnecessary screen clutter (squad frames, quickbar, etc).

Just a thought.

That counts as instrumentals. When i say no lyrics, i mean like no rock music, or rap, any of those lyric oriented musics. Immediate music, two steps from hell, etc.. their chorus and orchestra is fine. :)

And yes you can post those things here. But remember to keep it on topic. Post the links and i'll add them to the main post for PC players.

Yup, that's a great idea Rami, actually any posts with helpful links to tools for making such trailers would be a welcome addition to the thread

I used RAD Video Tools to convert the pre-rendered movies to editable formats. Seems to have a problem with anything longer than than 25+ seconds, however. At least for me it did. I suggest splitting them up into 510-or-so-frame chunks.

mod.gib.me/masseffect2/audioextract_rev27.zip
For extracting voice files. Very handy in that it specifies who's speaking each line, so you don't have to extract every file from the archive.

Those were my two main godsends, other than FRAPS for in-game footage.

I would so try to do this, if I had a better computer. a 2005 dell just won't cut it especially since my graphics card won't allow me to update it for whatever reason :(. Good luck to all contestants!!

I sort of made the assumption that such mods existed, since they did for ME1. I've done some searching and haven't found them yet, but if they exist I'll find them shortly.

Are these mod tools? Or do they work for any game assets?

The first one works for any game with .bik movies. The second is specifically for ME2. They aren't mods, just tools for video editors to make life easier.

Aw what the hell, I've got a spare Terminus that nobody wants to buy. 2nd place gets it.

Finally found some modifications to remove gameplay HUD elements. Didn't even have to look outside these forums.

For more modification options, refer to the Mass Effect 2 Texture Modders group, part of BioWare's SocialNetwork. All projects found under the Projects tab, as linked. All credit goes to them for these useful mods.

If your making a donation to the second place, then i'll put your name up there. Let me know if your seriously doing this.

I added the links to the modding/editing tools for the PC owners. Anymore links, i'll add them up. Can't wait to see what you guys come up with :)
