Well here is my submission for the contest.

I present to you Johann Shepard the Swedish Murder Machine (no not that one)

Slash & Burn

If I ever have to go through 60 gigs of raw footage it will be too soon

But I had tons of fun with this. Hope you guys enjoy it

This is not directly related to the contest, but I made a remix of the ME2 Launch Trailer and want to share it.
You can watch it here: Mass Effect 2 Launch Trailer [Remix] .

Well, I finally finished my video:

Homecoming

It took quite a bit of time, but I had fun making it, so a big thank you to those who set up the contest for giving me an excuse to do so. :)

If I was successful the story and themes I was trying to convey hopefully will speak for themselves; so I'll simply say thanks for watching, and enjoy!

Only critizisim here is that you can hear the game backround music when the normandy explodes. You could posibly have replaced the sound with a "cleaner" sounding explosion.
I'm absolutly loveing the tone you set in that trailer.

Will the judges be really strict with the guidelines?

The trailers that don't meet the guidelines will not even be given to the judges. I'm sorry to say that not all of the trailers on the first page qualify for the final processing. Once this contest is over at the end of this month, I will evaluate all of the trailers and then send them to the judges. The ones that do not meet the requirements will not be sent. Then after the judges have decided on the trailers that have won, we will announce the winners.

There are a few trailers (including mine, check signature) that are not on the first page. Are we disqualified or you have the official list somewhere else? :(

Sorry if this is a silly question... This is a Shepard trailer, from what I understand, but also an ME2 trailer, so I'm wondering if there's a point where the judges say that the way a trailer presents Shepard doesn't fit in the context of ME2. Let's say I wanted to make a comedic trailer and decided to use parts of "Oh Yeah" by Yello so that Shepard evokes Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Would the judges say that it's not related enough to ME2?

Also, uh, is there a time on May 30 when submissions will not be accepted? I'm on Mountain Time.

I based mine off of my Shepard, but tried to include elements of the story into the footage and audio.

If only I had my 3ds Max program, I could include my own bits into a trailer. This is what I have in mind for my trailer, but it consists of a lot of spoilers. Basically, what I have in mind is a suicide mission, and the Heart of Courage really fits the mood I am going for. The music starts off slow, which has several scenes pan on Shepard and his/her crew. The scenes after would have Shepards crew arming themselves as you see the drop shuttle float into the Collector Ship. At the same time, the music is reaching crescendo, you watch scenes of squadmates and Shepard valiantly fighting the Collectors. Once the music reaches peak crescendo, that is when you start seeing everything go wrong, for example you see Grunt being swarmed by Husks while he is shooting them down, explosion in the pipes Tali is in, you see the Harbinger grab Jack and throw her off the floating platforms, the choir working effectively with an epic (but shocking mood), Shepard losing grip of his/her significant other as that crew member falls into oblivion. Shepard continues to truck on quickly, making the last ditch jump but not making it and slowly falling into his/her doom. Yeah, it's sad, but it would be epic to see.

Still trying to watch them all, but this has my vote so far.

For those who are running out of disc space. Use a program like Any Video Convertor to convert your fraps movies.

I convert mine to Custom AVI, XVID codec, 12000 bitrate, 30FPS. Shrinks a 260MB file to 18MB. No quality loss what so ever. Even though I have 400GB free space, the smaller size is a breeze to work with.

I'm working on my trailer now, and will hopefully finish it this weekend. Hope I helped! :D

Don't mean to sound like I'm trying to bash you but I think you could have done better. I wasn't a huge fan of the footage choices for the beginning, and the music for the second half I think is overused. You did a really good job with the editing, though, which is why I think you could have done even better. Again, not trying to tear your video down, just trying to give a little contstructive criticism :P

Ah well, I'm sorry you didn't like it. Thanks for the input nonetheless.

I considered several candidates for the music in the second half and debated whether popularity should be a basis for disqualification. I decided simply to go with the one that felt like the best fit in the hope that each video
would be evaluated purely on its own presentation and execution, regardless of the choices made in other submissions.

Could anyone recommend some good epic music. I've been looking at 'Smell of Victory' by Two Steps from Hell, but it starts off way too fast, maybe add that later in the trailer. Thanks for your reply!

the sad thing about this contest is that its probably a very difficult one, you have to make it about your shepard and your story in me2 with me2 story in the trailer, and since there is over 35 hours of gameplay plus cinematic, it will be extremely hard to fit it all in a 2min length trailer, its easy for theatrical movies since they are averagley 2 hours long, but a 35 hour game? its a real challenge and i would expect the judges to know that, so this will be a pretty difficult contest, unless the judges dont realize this, its allot more than coping and pasting scenes, its gonna take allot of work.

and yes bioware made a good trailer but they just did the main story, this contest is about our shepard and the story, a bit more difficult

Hm.  Well, what feelings do you want to evoke in your trailer?  Haunting desperation, sadness, urgency, something more adrenaline-based, etc.  Have any ideas of what clips or types of clips you would like to use?  Do you plan to use a single song or could you edit two or more together?  There are a lot of different "epic music" I could link you, but they are each very different.  As an example, Protectors from Earth by Two Steps From Hell starts off slowly and builds up to quite a beautiful climax.  City of the Fallen's Seraphim, on the other hand, while epic, might be more appropriate for a darker, perhaps more action-oriented video despite also starting off relatively slowly.

Maybe you'll like 'Love & Loss' by Two Steps From Hell (Dynasty).

If you want to use 'Smell of Victory' you could take the beginning of 'The Truth Unravels II' and put it in front.
Or if you have extracted the game's audio files look for 'mus_critpath2_conv_2.ogg'. You could let it run about 35 seconds and then cross-fade to 'Smell of Victory'. I think that could work.

Audio Network - Mars

This song was an option for my trailer.

Try Extincion by Brand-X music. Pretty good piece. :)

Renegade Trailer*

I've actually been currently working on a femShep trailer (and will finish it eventually), but I doubt I'll finish it by the Mar. 30 deadline. *Shrugs* I had no idea about this thread until pretty recently.

Just wondering.. Are you still working on that FemShep trailer? I'm totally looking forward to watch it.

So am I.  Blackveldt's Renegade trailer was awesome.  I know mine won't be finished by the deadline either because I haven't even finished recording plus I've run into some problems with Adobe Premiere not recognizing my files. :?

Hah, thanks guys.  Yes, I am definitely still working on it.  Well, sort of; I've been busy doing a lot of other things and it's been difficult to put more time into video editing.  Especially since I record every possible cut scene in the game and later watch each clip a number of times (sometimes at varying speeds) to see which ones I want to use or cut.  I've finished recording everything for FemShep, but have now just gotten into the 'cutting' stage.  At least I'm done recording the gameplay footage.  It was a pain in my Renegade trailer (to get it exactly how I wanted it to look), but perhaps more so for this one.  In any case, I appreciate your guys' interest.  I didn't start making my trailers because of this thread, so even if I don't make the deadline, I'll finish it.

I've actually been really looking forward to your trailer as well rynluna.  Kept wondering how your progress has been coming.  You should definitely make a discussion in the Jane Shepard group once you're done.  Was the LI going to be Liara?  I recall something to that effect.  In what format are your raw files?  .AVI?
