The multiplayer developer and some other guy was fired claiming "breach of contract" why couldn't they have just fired fourzerotwo instead?

Yeah they fired the heads of Infinity Wards, which I think were also the founders. Irony is that they left EA 2015 team and joined Activision because at 2015 EA told them that they would have to make a yearly franchise out of Medal of Honor.

Looks like CoD is going in the same direction as Guitar Hero.  I bet that a CoD is going to be released this "holiday season" and next year we're apparently going to be getting an "action adventure" CoD (aka CoD: Drakes Fortune).

Looks like Kotick really wasn't joking when he said "I want to take the fun out of making video games" and that he liked to keep an "atmosphere of pessimism, fear, and depression in the workplace" especially when he sent his stormtroopers to the IW offices to be all intimidating and whatnot.

IW heads were probably told that CoD would be a yearly franchise no matter what, and then they probably offered to try and make a new IP or a different iteration (CoD: Future Warfare 2150) and Kotick responded with a force choke.

It was pretty obvious from past actions from Activision that they were going to try and milk the Call of Duty franchise dry. They did it with the Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk games. The only difference here is how predictable it will all be. Hilarity's going to ensue when they get their way, I assure you.

Were the guards that held down IW Studios armed?

I doubt insubordination calls for active firearms.

Well, why the hell would they hold Infinity Ward hostage? You know they haven't even made any royalty money from MW2.

When people are removed from that have a high level of access to important technical and financial data, there is a certain need to make sure that they don't' attempt any sabotage. Not sure why they were removed though, they weren't really in a place to question Activision anyway, as Infinity Ward is entirely owned by them.

According to Kotaku and 1up they have now sued!
Apparently they were fired before they were to be paid royalties dun dun.

From Kotaku:
West and Zampella are coming out swinging. "We were shocked by
Activision's decision to terminate our contract," Jason West says. "We
poured our heart and soul into that company, building not only a world
class development studio, but assembling a team we've been proud to
work with for nearly a decade. We think the work we've done speaks for
itself."
"After all we have given to Activision, we shouldn't have to sue to get paid", Zampella adds.

The plot thickens!

While I'm sure Activision has a different take on things, this definitely is getting interesting.

It's been known for a while now that Treyarch (CoD3, CoD:WaW) is developing a CoD for this holiday season.  Traditionally (since CoD2), CoD titles were developed by 2 studios -- each alternating yearly.

To put it simply, it sold the most copies in 2009. Really, that is the reason.

I have to admit, Spec Ops was a blast to play. Too bad Infinity Ward is suing Activision. Bobby Kodick, you are indeed putting an atmosphere of pessimism, fear into game developement.

Also, there's a rumor about IW discussing business with a rival publisher or something like that.

I hope IW wins.
