Huh?

If something pops out of thin air than it's magic. You may believe magic exists (in that way) but why would you?!

it probably won't be revealed unless BioWare somehow makes it important to plot...to leave it open for future games.

Also, I doubt we'll be destroying the Reapers...again to make room for future games/books/etc...

I mean sure if they continue making ME games they can make up a new threat..but how do you trump the Reapers without it coming across as extremely lame? You don't...and any future threat after the Reapers just won't seem as threatening and bring down the quality...I mean what are we gonna fight next that can in any way come close to the threat the Reapers represent?

this. the reapers are the greatest threat to the galaxy & all its advanced civilizations. to kill them off completely, then replace them with anything of a lesser threat in future ME events would just seem mundane.

"We have no beginning. We have no end."

Whatever that means, it's probably an indication that the Reapers are something more than a created entity, which I find hard to believe myself, but we will know everything one day.

the reapers encompass the literal meaning of survival of the fittest. they have transcended evolution and now control it. they only find the species that have technologically advanced to a point based on their own technology dangerous. primitive or non-sentient species are of no concern or threat to them. they mastered technology and organic evolution and combined it into one consciousness, to ensure their survival until the end of time.

But Reapers aren't a single consciousness. the way I understood it, they kind of have a hive-mind, but individual consciousness.

But who knows who built'em, any answer is speculation. Never mentioned or hinted to in-game, so I guess there is no real answer. If I speculated, I'd say they are atleast partially self-created. Maybe they started off like the Geth, and "evolved" themselves, making constant improvements until viola, Reapers. Radically different from their intended design. Or somehow they started off as organics and slowly became machines, or some organic-tech mix like the Collectors except times a thousand. Can't say for sure, no one can.

Well blendering humans made a human reaper, so where are the squid things that all the reapers look like, and why are there only that type?

They are made from different species. The human reaper was just a fetus, had it been completed it would look like the rest.

The Protheans created them and they turned on them just like the Geth turned on the Quarians. -shrugs- Sort of the whole time flows like a river, and history repeats deal.

Have you been following the story at all? You should be ashamed of youself.

so all i got from this thread was that Chuck Norris the forerunner created with the help of the ancient humans a reaper with the all-spark at Atlantis, which leaked genetic fluid on the earth with the help of RWJ and Gordon Freeman. Turtles play some role in this too.

No wonder the reapers don't remember who created them.

The Quarians.

The Reapers are actually just Geth who time travelled into the past and upgraded themselves.

Well I wouldn't go that route..but still close I'm sure...

Reapers are either squid-borg or basically started like the geth "heretics" but succeeded in wiping out organics...yet still need organics for one reason or another to continue existing.

There is a theory about time. It goes some thing like: In different spaces of the universe it follows logically that there are different effects of time and so when one speeds past another they intermingle for a certain period of time.

Say then that there are several "time zones" in dark space. It would make sense for Reapers to exist without a creator if there is no one to create nor not create them. I think...

What is the point?
If the point is the reapers just came to be with no background of any kind then that is just about as far from logical as you can get.
I mean for that to be true they would have to be invisible and everything bad that happens in the galaxy is the reaper's doing.
But we didn't see a reaper so we say good and bad things are done by the reaper, no wait why would the reaper do bad things, the reaper's evil cousin does all the bad stuff.

im with the " first race to inhabit the galaxy thing" only maybe they built them as slaves (like a geth situation) and they vowed revenge on all organic life.

it's not revenge they're after, it's acsension. someone else got it perfectly right earlier when they spelled it out; the reapers were created, by whom and for what we don't know but we know they outlived their creators, by whatever means, but lost something, which then led to this cycle of harvesting. they are trying to regain something and have set the galaxy up as a petri dish that hasn't come through for them yet.
i believe they were built to fulfill their creators ascension and have essentially been left behind, trying to find their own way.
