Ok the title of the thread says it all.  I have been trying to complete all the trophies on the PS3.  I killed Wynne (which I didn't personally like doing and it has made the game a tad harder).  Now I refused to lay down with Morrigan and refused to talk to Loghain on her behalf for that little thing she wants (the baby).  Now I am faced with doing the final battle without a mage (who was also my healing potion maker - DOH!).

I have already died several times trying to get past the nasties to battle the dragon.  Anyone got any advice on this sticky bugger of a situation?  Am trying different tactics but the healing powers of a mage seem to be a massive setback.  I could go back to an earlier save and talk to Loghain but why?!  I just need a little help with this so I can complete the game in a different way for a change.

Any help appreciated ;)

LOL! You are never screwed....there is always a way. I am the eternal optimist :) I have just started playing the scenario in an old NWN style. Attract one critter at a time and keep the massive all in battles to a minimum. Seems to be working so far...but lets see how the Arch Demon goes.

Perhaps someone can offer advice on which and when to use the armies provided...instead of just saying...

'You're screwed.... start over'

How many potions do you have? And injury kits? My last few playthroughs I used a mage with no healing abilities as my Warden, and didn't bring Wynne or Morrigan with me to the final fights. I had buttloads of potions, injury kits and salves. Got by just fine with those. Specific party tactics though, I couldn't really explain. My mage generally mowed foes down with the more powerful Primal spells.

There's the obvious of course....lower the difficulty.

Now the more enlightened response:

You can make the fight a lot easier by focusing on the darkspawn instead of the ArchDemon. What I mean is, when the battle first starts it's just your team and ol' meeny. After you do some damage, he'll fly off and call a bunch of guys to join the fight. At that time, run your team off to one side (I think it's actually top or bottom) of the battle area, preferably the opposite direction of where the AD went. You can then concentrate on taking out all of the darkspawn on that side without the AD interfering. If you do that and then do the same on the other side it'll just be you and the AD again, no support. Otherwise, the darkspwn just pick you off while you are trying to kill the AD.

Also, you get a helm during the first part at Denerim gates I believe called the Corrupter or something. It gives one character 75% resist to spirit, making them nearly immune to the AD. Make sure to put it on whoever is going head to head with him.

And regardless, you are definitely going to need SOME healing potions. I hope you have a few anyway.

Yeah got about 100 of mixed potions atm. I like the tactic of moving off to the top or bottom of the map. It's just like the NWN style I spoke of whereby you attract one enemy at a time where possible.

Also the tactics set to defense seem to work a charm atm (So does the Corrupter Helm on Loghain). I am working through it slowly, saving then raising the difficulty level every time I defeat it and doing it over again....mmmm....I see patterns! (damm AI in RPGs)....the saga continues....

How about advice on army tactics.

I've had mixed luck with all the armies on different playthroughs. Best results I've probably had were using the mages first, then using either the dwarves or the Redcliffe soldiers after the mages die off.

If you've got the Dalish, they are helpful for shooting at the Archdemon and keeping it busy while you foucs on the lowbie darkspawn mobs.

The fight is very possible with no mages or potions; you should be fine. I do have a video in my signature that might help.

still when he flys off I find the mages pack a powerful punch if you donate stuff to them.

I agree... but if you do feel if you screwed yourself, I'm at a loss for words. What were you thinking if that you're that dependent on them?  Just bad impulsive decision-making...? I feel kind of bad for you.

The same happened to me. I lost all mages and went into the final battle with a 2H warrior, Loghain as tank, Shale and Leliana. But I made Leliana my potion maker so I had about only 17 potions with me in the end as I also killed the elves and didn't have an endless supply of Elfroot. But I also had about 30 injury kits.

But it is doable, you can do it without any mage healers.

There is a respec mod a dragonage nexus that let's you re-class any party member. If you are desperate, then you could make any party member, say Leliana, into a mage for the final battle.
