Yep because we videogamers are such a manly bunch I have decided to ask the question has a videogame ever made you cry? The idea came from somebody who posted a thread on the ME forums asking whether anyone actually cried in ME1 or ME2 and to my surprise quite a few people were moved to tears.

So I decided to ask, has a videogame ever made you cry?

While neither ME1 or ME2 were able to make me cry there has been one game that managed to bring a tear to my eye and that was MGS3. It was at the end of the game where Snake faces his old mentor the Boss, it is sad because while everyone thought that she betrayed her country she was in fact a patriot to the very end following her orders and that she was just a mere pawn used to help those in power stay in power.

It also comes back to the question Snake asks her at the start of the game about how to think like a soldier, think of it as her final lesson to her pupil about the harsh reality of the duty of a soldier, loyalty to the mission and nothing else.

Heh I am getting teary eyed just thinking about it.

But anyway has a videogame ever moved you to tears and if so which game?

Fallout 3. Seriously, watching your dad die to protect you and your dead mother's dream is really, really, sad. Poor guy's last words were telling me to run... *sniff* And of course you getting kicked out of the vault by your best friend.

Nope, i dont consider myself part of the "manly" bunch. Don't get me wrong, video games can make me feel some pretty strong emotions (both positive and negative), but I've never cried. The fallout 3 scene was very touching, but the strongest scene for me was the ME1 scene when the Human fleet came through the Relay, and proceeded to lay waste too the geth fleet and sovereign.

Alganon moved me to tears. Of laughter.

That might not be what you're asking, though, so I'm just going to go ahead and say Bioshock II got me all teary eyed at the end for no apparent reason other than it being the closest thing I could get to a sobby game at the time. The ending came as no surprise, but the presentation was good enough for me to find some sort of empathy for those almost-huggable characters of Rapture.

Fine, I'll be cliche....even though I still think it was an amazing moment.

When Sephiroth killed Aerith (Aeris).

Hasn't happened yet, but I don't necessarily doubt it will eventually.

Some of the more emotionally affecting scenes (for me) in videogames that I can recall off the top of my head were in Metal Gear Solid and MGS2 (haven't played the more recent ones), and, yeah, Mass Effect 2.  There are likely some others that I'm forgetting at the moment, but they probably didn't move me all that much if I've forgotten them.

I cried at the point in Grandia 2 where Millennia dies. You wouldn't expect that kind of self sacrifice from a character like her, but she does it.

Not crying but close with Aerith´s death in FF7. That was cruel and nasty.

ME2 has also really sad moments, Tali´s dad has become a classic.

With people mentioning Aerith's death as a tearjerker, I couldn't resist posting the following link:

That works better with British adds about landmines.

I think ff7 was pretty bad with Aries. She was my fav in the game and then those bastard devs decided to kill her off. Man I was crushed. I thought they were gonna do the same in me2 with tali in the end of the game; when I saw the debrie on top of her after I killed the reaper boss I was like WTF, then she got up and I was so happy. It was a kag like in the me1 ending. They better not kill her in me3.

I haven't actually "cried" because of any game, but many games do tend to bring up some emotions. Like the Aerith's death scene. :?

But one of the most emotional games i've ever played is Heavy Rain. It's so...realistic. You can easily understand the torment and emotional rollercoaster Ethan goes throuhg. One scene, where I had to decide whether or not he shoots a man, was really difficult. And the reaction Ethan gives after the decision is just...real.

I guess you have to be a certain type of player to really enjoy Heavy Rain, since it's not a shoot'em up or anything. Just sit back and enjoy the story..

hmm, what else...well, I got pissed at the end of Fallout 1 (overseer....) <_<

Of course, Dragon Age's story also brings up emotions, mainly because you get attached to your companions. Final moments before you head to behead the archdemon was...beutiful...:crying:

Final Fantasy 8

Neverwinter Nights 2

Shadow of the Colossus

Oh please dont get me started on that peice of dribble you call a game, Ive seen more emotionally moving scenes in a Looney Toons cartoon.

I agree that Heavy Rain comes the closest of any game I've played, but since I didn't make too many bad choices or loss any QTEs, I might have not had as many tearjerkers as some. There were definitely some moments that really galvanized me to bring the killer to justice though.

Have to note that some people may not have the maturity level to appreciate the game, however. Just saying.

I agree... Too bad.

I'm still getting it though :wizard:

Sadly no. There is DLC coming out soon and the game is fairly replayable (though to be honest, despite the many different endings, it's only really good for a few playthroughs at most) but the game itself only clocks in at around 8 hours. It does pack in more content than most games that last 30, however.

Please that tactic only works on idiots.

You see Heavy Rain's popularity relies on the same tactics used by the tailors who sold an invisible suit to the emperor, we are told that Heavy Rain is supposed to give us a groundbreakingly mature, gritty, intelligent and cleverly constructed, branching storyline and as my good friend Twitchmonkey has pointed out anyone who disagrees with this either does not have the maturity to get the story or is an idiot.

Of course rather than look like an idiot people prefer to play along because it makes them look like a mature and intelligent individual to their peers when really it proves that they have a brain the size of a peanut.

Those of us that can think for ourselves however can see through the illusion and see that Heavy rain is nothing but a shallow, poorly writen pile of dribble with plot holes as big as David Cage's ego.

Unless buying a game means you aren't going to be able to afford your diabetes medication this month, there really is no reason for a PS3 owner to not buy Heavy Rain. Maybe you'll love it, or maybe you'll think it's an affront to god, but the experience shouldn't leave you without having any strong views on the situation.

More then once. First time was with Chrono Cross.

But that had also great music. No matter how good a scene is, only the right music can bring across the proper emotional impact.
