yeah, disc 2 was a little....rediculous. (especially the scene with the mechs getting crucified, I actually cracked up laughing during that scene)

Breakdown, the end of the game, when you hold out your hand to Alex as she's sucked back through time (sorry for spoilers, but odds are if you haven't played it you probably never will) - really, that whole game is so immersive on a level that almost no other game gets close to, and I still feel it's one of the best sci-fi stories in a game ever. There are several really moving moments in the game, but the end when you make your choice and take Alex's hand...

Yeah, that was a big one.

I really agree with all that.  I liked that game a lot, and wished that it wouldn't have had so many annoying little flaws, because it could have been an all around great game, instead of just an at-times-great, at-times-incredibly-frustrating game.

The ending, and unrealized potential, really made me hope for a sequel.  Too bad about that, I guess.

Alex pathetically trying to fight the villain, only to collapse dying on top of you at that one point was another great scene.

When Mordin died on my first playthrough of Mass Effect 2, I came pretty close.

Also, when my friend squashed me at Civ 4 despite all my hard practice. WASTED HOURS.

Didn't really cry but anyway,

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey - when the little girl dies. I still have her theme song on my iPod.

It has yet to happen to me but Shadow of Colossus, Planescape: Torment, and Legacy of Kain: Defiance came close.

I think the only game that moved me to tears, or nearly did, was Final Fantasy VIII at the end, when I though Squall had died. Other than that, haven't really experienced a twinge really. Books and film remain far above videogames in terms of moving story telling for the time being.

The whole Legacy of Kain series, while it didn't make me cry even a little, is still INCREDIBLY AWESOME! Image IPB

Yeah, Operation Anchorage almost made me cry, because it was so terrible.

I think on the "save" I'm on now, I only have Op Anch. and MSZ left to do. Can't really be bothered with either, and it just seems a little pointless considering I've done the main questline/most marked side quests.

I must be weird, I really liked Mothership Zeta.

And I didn't hate Operation Anchorage. It was just kinda there.

*shrug*

Ugh, MSZ was only slightly better than OA. At least you could loot things

Anything that has both a samurai and cowbow is automatically awesome. If the cowboy was voiced by Clint Eastwood it becomes head explodingly awesome.

I only teared up with FFVII and I was 12 at the time. I guess I must have gotten hardened or something considering how often I usually end up laughing at the serious points of a game. Either that or it's the writing.

The ones that come to mind that left me emotional instead of snarky would be the MGS games, ME1, ME2, KotOR, and Starcraft. Xenosaga also had its moments, though I never got into part 2. FFVIII also had a number of moments for me, when it wasn't being bogged down by translation problems or ridiculous over sentimentality. I laughed so hard at the "Power of Friendship" moment near the end I accidentally spat on my monitor. More specific:

- I finally played the first MGS last year after I had played 2 and 3. Sniper Wolf's death is easily one the more heartwrenching scenes in fiction.

- In MGS2, Emma. Her death was brutal and pointless, and watching her slowly bleed out while Otacon cries depressed me and also made Vamp one of my most hated villians of all time.

- The ending of MGS3. Made harder that the game makes you do it yourself.

- ME1. Virmire.Triggered more of a roaring rampage of revenge than pure sadness, but having to choose just made it harder. Every time I get there, I end up unable to select anything for 10 or more seconds.

- ME2. Even though no one died, the suicide mission was pretty emotional for me.

- Starcraft. Kerrigan has become a classic tragic villain. BW is the only strategy game I've played where I even cared about the characters.

- KotoOR. The Dark Side ending was pretty depressing. Especially if you're a female Revan and with Carth. And poor Mission...

Other than that, I can't think of anything I've played and completed that came close. Though Fallout 3 has been wonderful in providing facepalms, snarkbait, and unintentional humor. It was the only thing to prevent from crying since it was the only game I ended up having over Christmas break the year it came out.

I played one time as dark side. (played as a male though, which I usually do)
The whole Mission and Zalbarr thing is beyond a doubt the most **** thing I have ever done in a video game. I had to take a shower immediately afterword. It felt that dirty and....wrong. I've played through KOTOR several times now, but only did the dark side ending that one time, all because of that scene.

Demon's Souls.

You either cry, rage, or do hysterical laughter. And die. Again.

Metal Gear Solid. Psycho Mantis' monologue really got me. I was young, but it still gets me every now and then.
