I'm trying to change the appearance of my mc; he's an elf and I'm wanting to give him longer ears.
Unfortunately the only advice that i've seen online seems to involve creating a new morph from scratch on the toolset and the exporting it onto the save file.
Is there anyway of loading the existing head so I can simply edit the ears (everything else is fine)?
Cheers,
changing character appearance

No, there is no other way to do it, you will have to make a new head.

Using the toolset to recreate a character's look (importing values from .das of a newly created character, cutting and pasting values into old character's .das file) is working for me. If the character files aren't too big to import.
Problem I'm having with the toolset is opening the old character files inside the toolset. Every time I try to import my old character (who has completed the game), the toolset runs out of memory.
Now it's a big file (13 MB) so maybe that's why. Anyone know how to get past this little hiccup?

On Windows XP that would be in <Your Documents>\\Bioware\\Dragon Age\\Characters\\<Your Character>\\<Your Savegame>\\
The toolset seems to run out of memory around the 10Mb mark for file size. That's about by the time you reach the landsmeet for a typical playthrough.

You'll have to google, but yes, there's a solution. The toolset is a 32bit application, which means that it has a hard limit of 2gb per thread or something like that. Somebody linked to a program that changes the header of any exe slightly to allow it to address more memory: it's a generic program, but you can apply it to the toolset's exe (make a copy of the .exe file though!).
It's only terribly useful if you have a lot of RAM. Opening up an endgame or imported Awakening save sends my memory usage to 5.16gb: if you don't have enough RAM and virtual memory to accomplish that, it won't do you much good.
